Metrodizanole and alcohol

I had my last dose of Metrodizanole on Sunday at 17.45, so it’s been 48 hours at the time I’m writing this.

NHS website and manufacturers recommend 48 hours after last dose before consuming alcohol. It’s my friends 30th today and we planned to go for birthday drinks tonight. I have annual leave tomorrow and have been really looking forward to it. Will I be okay to drink from 8pm onwards?

I’m aware of the nasty side effects and the severity of the interactions between Metro and alcohol. I have health anxiety so looking for some reassurance really and real life experiences. Has anyone taken the antibiotic and drank after 48 hours and had problems?

Only a small minority of patients get a bad reaction to metronidazole with alcohol but, for those who do, it's fucking awful. It's not worth the risk, for the sake of a few hours. The fact that other people have been OK will not be any consolation if you are the unlucky one!

You should be ok. I only allowed about 6 hours and it was ok. That was the second time. The first time I didn’t bother to avoid alcohol and holy mother of god it was bad.
