Proud memories (unexpected is better) from childhood

I had an on off happy childhood but I wasn't your typical girly child, didn't have lots of toys etc due to finances etc and didn't seem to win things - including at sports day etc or starring in Nativity Play.

Anyway I was 9 or 10 and there was a local newspaper you could buy ran a competition to make your own Easter Bonnet and win the prize of a ginormous Easter egg. I've always been good at crafts and spent ages making a great Easter Bonnet and to my great surprise I won - got my photo in the newspaper and the huge Easter Egg - my mum was saying - she never wins anything. Well, I did that day, so proud! Smile

What are your unexpected proud memories from childhood?

Similar background here, and mine is around the gala day’s fancy dress comp.

All entrants paraded round the local park, and I remember feeling pure joy when the compere gave a shout out to my costume as we went round.

Didn’t win though!
