I've ruined my sofa trying to dye it!

I made the mistake of buying a cream sofa years ago inevitably now it's gross and discoloured and stained, and it doesn't go with my room which is otherwise greats and mustard

So I thought I'd dye the covers black and buy some cheap black fabric and cover the arms and back with it...

So I just put half the covers in the wash with the black dye, and they've turned a weird pink colour!! 😩

Has anyone ever painted their sofa? I've seen videos of it but it only seems to be leather or used a dye that actually works? I used that dylon one which is supposed to be really good!

I can't afford a new sofa and don't have a sewing machine to make any covers and really need it to be as cheap as possible if anyone has any ideas or advice or specific brands of dye/paint that work! 🤞

It sounds like you have tried to dye too much fabric at one go. You need to use like one packet of Dylan for no more than two cushions. If it’s black, Home Bargains sells the machine Dylan ones for 2.99 (or maybe 3.99) per pack. And you might stain the rubber seal on your washing machine.

Should say Dylon not Dylan!

I re-covered a sofa years ago using yards of cheap material and a rented staple gun, I then glued trim on it to cover noticeable lines of staples. It turned out much better than I thought it would.
Or, how about buying a couple of very large throws. If you tuck them in well they can almost look like covers. Or just one very large throw just chucked over it.
I've never heard of painting a sofa tbh.

You can paint your fabric sofa. There are videos on yahoo and if you join Frenchic ( a chalk paint fan page) on FB you can get advice.

I got this for my 2 seater and it’s transformed it. They’re reduced now as well. But Wayfair have loads of covers at reasonable prices.
