My nipple itches and I'm a bit worried

My left nipple has been really itchy for a week or more and it is driving me mad. I can't seem to satisfy the itch. It is really sore, swollen and very red and now a lump has appeared on the side. I don't suffer from eczema or any other skin condition. The skin doesn't appear to be dry around my nipple at all.

I'm quite worried. Has anyone else experienced similar?

I know it sounds daft btw but it really, really itches and is distracting and painful!

Could be infected, I'd try putting a warm flannel on it, monitoring your temperature and making a doc appointment in the morning, oh and paracetamol if it's really painful!

You aren't breastfeeding are you? Different advice if you are!

Please go and get checked out, I had similar which filled with pus and led to me passing out. A&E doctor fast tracked me to the breast service thinking I had Paget's disease. Thankfully it turned out to be periodontal mastitis.

Have you been exercising in the heat? I get something a bit like this sometimes - a sort of heat rash with red pimples, but incredibly itchy. But if it's not clearly heat-related, then it sounds like it needs to be checked by your GP.
