Ideas for day off with 13 year old DD

Looking for inspiration, I unexpectedly have the day off work it's just me and 13 year old DD everyone else is busy, what should we do???

Have you asked them?

If I ask The response will be 'nothing' they are quite happy to sit about on screens typical teen stuff, which is fine but there has been lots of that. I just want us to get up and out and do something today... but struggling with ideas

Depends on where you are but I'd probably take them somewhere like Thorpe park or Chessington. Or anywhere active and a bit different. Climbing wall? Indoor ski slopes? But will planned in 'nothing' time too.

What are they into?

As HotWatetBottle says, it depends where you are, but I might do walk and tea rooms at a NT-type property, mooching round Forbidden Planet (not my idea of fun after the first 10 minutes but my teens can spend bloody hours in there!), British Museum, afternoon tea somewhere nice, theme park, wildlife sanctuary, seaside, snowboarding, rollerblading, Lego shop.

If all else fails, I just take mine to Paperchase or Tiger and they have a great time (possibly the most expensive option of the lot though!).

Tricky at that age, probably shops with lovely tea and cake after, if not afternoon tea.
It's something I really enjoyed with my dm, ie sit down (fag for her after).
I didn't realise other people didn't do this, ie Mil would very rarely if ever do this.
But the memory of the shopping is entwined with the memory of the lovley cosy sit downs after.

Where are you based/what areas can you travel to?

Are there any fun museums near you? We've been to the National Media Museum in Bradford a couple of times as DD loves it there. Could do something like that then stop off for food somewhere too?

A day at the seaside is always fun too, even if the weather isn't great it's still a good time

Although to be honest my DD enjoys a bit of shopping and some lunch together the most. We spend a couple of hours mooching round Meadowhall, have a sit down lunch in a restaurant (pre book now!) and there's an Ikea nearby too which we pop into if were in the area

I took mine for a Segway safari its the most she has spoken ti me in months. We had a lovely time.

We've done quick a lot of just mooching around bit of a walk go for tea and cake, it used to appeal to her, now not so much and we have done sooo much walking over lockdown that even I'm bored of walking so it's good to get some other other options especially when teens are so tricky, in that they mainly just want to be left alone to do their own thing, this is fine in the most part but sometimes I think it's good to be forced into spending time together !

We've met up with friends and gone for an EOTHO lunch!

We are going to try paddle boarding too.

Yes teens are expensive those simple (free) pleasures when they were younger just don't cut it any longer!

Paddleboarding is fantastic. We usually go lots but just going once this summer as it’s quite far and there are no loos or changing rooms open!

One fun thing for another day with teens is pottery painting.
