How to get footage off an old video cassette?

Does anyone know? I've had the video so long I was always going to put it onto a CD but that's obsolete now isn't it?

So my question is - can it be transferred onto ... something? And if so, what?

Thanks!

I’d love to know too, I found an old tape of DD as a toddler - she’s 30 now!

Have it put onto a DVD. That's what I did with the video cassettes I had from the camcorder we used when my teen was a baby. I went to a photo shop, Jessops. It was about £20 a DVD. I cried when I watched them, they ranged from birth to 2 years, all the firsts of everything!

Yeah same here, I took all my old camcorder tapes of ds as a baby to a local camera shop and they transferred them on to a DVD and a memory stick for us. Fabulous to watch them again, seeing ds a a baby but also seeing my darling late Dad, and hearing his chuckle that I miss so so much x

I have some old hi 8 tapes, I want to buy the kit to do it myself but haven't been able to find what I need.

The problem with transferring to a DVD is that I think we've now moved past this haven't we? I have no way to watch a DVD in my house. Don't they put it onto a file or something that you can download?

Well you could download the DVD onto your PC and then share the files over to your tv and watch it from there. Or upload to YouTube.

We have no dvd on our laptop, they are a dying breed.

GenderApostate19 · 16/08/2020 22:03

You can buy an external dvd rom for a laptop, DH bought one to play old pc games.

therhubarbbrothers · 16/08/2020 22:18

That's useful, thanks.
I bought a kit to connect my camcorder to my laptop or tv a while back but it wouldn't work with the laptop or tv, frustrating in the extreme,

Hmm. No laptop either... family of iPhones and iPads here! Couple of gaming monitors

Get it put onto an external hard drive then. Just needs a USB port. We use one for xbox storage.
