My neighbours have been playing the same song over and over again for the last few hours.

I’m sitting here listening to ‘Turn Back Time’ by Cher for the umpteenth time this evening. I can’t quite work out which house it’s coming from, definitely not next door as they’re on holiday so I’m assuming it’s next door but one. Despite them having the windows and doors shut I can hear it perfectly and occasionally hear a voice singing a long loudly with it. It will stop for a bit then start up again a few minutes later. The same —awful— song over and again!

Does anyone this that this is strange behaviour? It’s not annoying me so much, just baffling as to why someone would to listen to such a shit song over and over again?

My kids play the same song over and over again. Current favourite is one of 3 songs from the Hamilton soundtrack. We know all the words and they have started to copy me humming loudly over the swear words. Can't be heard in the garden much though and we are a detached house so not punishing anyone else. So no, usual behaviour in our house.

userabcname · 16/08/2020 20:41

Haha dh does this when drunk. Fixates on some crap old song, plays it on repeat, announces through teary eyes that it's one of the best songs ever made and then goes to bed and never ever plays it ever again. So maybe one of your neighbours is similar!

Rhine · 16/08/2020 20:42

Maybe lol. It’s such an awful song that I can’t believe that anyone would actually like it.

Maybe the neighbour is trying to learn all the words for some reason.

Or maybe they've lost someone recently

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 16/08/2020 20:46

I did that once, put a track on repeat in error and went to the pub, the neighbour was furious

Witchend · 16/08/2020 20:48

I would guess that someone has irritated them all day with noise, and they've set the same song on repeat and gone out. Grin

rosiethehen · 16/08/2020 20:53

They had some grotty Cher song on in the operating theatre when ds2 was born by c section. I would have preferred some Vivaldi, but they didn't give a choice. I've never quite forgiven them.

mindutopia · 16/08/2020 20:56

I once had a downstairs neighbour who used to play Don’t fear the reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, again and again and again. I mean literally like 4-6 hours a day, on repeat, for the several months he lived there.

It’s basically about mortality and the inevitability of death. Dark stuff.

But ultimately he was less bothersome than the drug dealer who lived in the other downstairs flat (whose clients used to come banging on our door at all hours), so we just left him to it.

After awhile I found it a reassuring sign he was still alive. 😬

Rehearsing it for something

Neighbouring house at uni played Valerie for a full twelve hours once. Was like torture.

TintagliaBlue · 16/08/2020 21:00

@bashcrashfall hello 👋🏻 we are also on a three/four song repeat of Hamilton. It’s all we song/hum!

Bunnybigears · 16/08/2020 21:00

Our neighbour did this once, it was when it got to 2am and it was still going I called the police (non emergency number) to do a welfare check as neighbour is an alcoholic who lives alone. They were found unconscious but alive in the freezing bath water.

I do this it helps me concentrate when I’m writing a uni essay. I have headphones though.

And I like that song. 🤷‍♀️

JudyGemstone · 16/08/2020 21:02

I'm no Cher fan but it could be worse OP.

Mamette · 16/08/2020 21:04

The op clearly says she hears someone singing to it. So unlikely they are dead in the bath,,

I quite like that song too. Not enough to listen to it on repeat though..🤣
