Out 7 year old is still sucking his thumb and we have been trying to use stop and grow, but the little monkey just sucks it off and carries on sucking. We applied it this morning and he's already sucking his thumb again.

Has anybody got any better alternatives?

He will naturally stop doing it so much. Does he suck all the time, or just at certain times? If he tries to talk while sucking tell him to take his thumb out because you can't understand him. At bedtime, while going to sleep? Don't really see the problem.

I bandaged my sons thumbs up like a boxer to get him to stop. But that was for night time thumb sucking...we’d cracked it in the day at about 7ish by constant reminders.

Oh and PP-whilst you may not see the problem...my sons top teeth are fairly deformed from his thumb sucking-it does cause issues and you’d be naive to think it doesn’t.

Super drug do a anti nail biting thing in a pot. My niece only had to have it put on twice and she never sucked her thumb again. There's no way they can suck it off and carry on because its absolutely rank.

Chilli oil on the thumb in the day and sock on hand in the night

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam we can see his front teeth are affected which is why we are trying everything to stop him sucking!

He would suck it day and night given a chance, watching tv, in the car, when sleeping.

Back in the 1979’s my grandad wiped my sister’s thumb around the bowl of his pipe to stop her sucking it!

She carried on - after washing her hands 😁 and still does it sometimes now and she’s 56.

It did deform her teeth and jawline. She had to have braces and a complicated head harness thing.

Thumb sucking is an absolute joy. Let him carry on!

I am desperate to try and stop my 4 year old. Her teeth are already terribly deformed with a noticeable overbite.
She doesn't give two shits about the nail varnish :(

Tie string or wool around the base of his thumb

I got DD a couple of fabric thumb covers (they fasten with a press stud to keep them securely on) from Etsy. We were living in the US at the time, and you could also buy plastic disposable thumb covers. I assume similar things are available here.
