(Semi-lighthearted, though the tears are real)
I had a significant birthday during lockdown. Had a huge party booked in a local venue, and dh had booked us a mini break the week before with a stated plan that we would go around all the lovely little galleries and find me a necklace for my present.
I don’t usually do a big fuss for my birthday so this was all rather lovely.
Anyway, pandemic obviously got in the way of it all, everything cancelled, had a normal day, such is life.
The mini break place offered to reschedule (it’s in the U.K.) and I suggested September when the weather will still hopefully be nice, but no big crowds. Left it with DH to sort in May, reminded him occasionally, he kept suggesting rebooking it for next year instead, and every time he did I pointed out how remote and safe the place is (we would see no one the whole time we are there - perfection) and how I really need a break.
Even-longer-story short, he didn’t book it despite them sending reminder emails to say it was starting to book up. It’s now booked up until next year.
We have got through the whole of Lockdown with nary a cross word but I am gutted. I just want to cry. It’s not that big a deal, but I was so looking forward to living in a treehouse in the middle of nowhere for a few days.
We will be going after my birthday next year now.
It’s such a first world problem but I am so bloody fed up and sad about it.
Dh is usually really lovely and thoughtful and I couldn’t wish for a nicer person, but today he is a complete prat.
TL:DR DH got me a UK mini break for my birthday pre lockdown, it was cancelled (due to aforementioned lockdown) and he failed to rebook it for September before it got booked up.
