Feel a little betrayed/ganged up on

Be gentle- been slightly crappy day-

This happened over a few days and came to a bit of a head tonight...

Feel totally garbages up on by a committee I’m on- we do training that was obviously cancelled during lockdown but has now in many places started back up again - I have been asked by several friends about when it’s starting again- however the top brass decided not to re start till January - however with many events in my hobby now starting to go ahead it seems a little unnecessary to not offer training too-

Ran it past committee member 1 and they agreed it was a good idea and said to ask committee member 2 if they had any ideas about it- they said they didn’t have time to organise it- fine I don’t want them to! I’m happy to do fit with the friends that want it! Then friend who I live with (also on committee) gets a message from number 3 (totally out of the blue) that they have some family stuff going on - again fair _ so do we!! My 99 yr old great Nan is fading out right now- and training would be a welcome distraction-

Anyway I then get a message from one of the top brass saying to ring her - I do- only to be told a bunch of mildly questionable stuff about what our governing body has appparently said about re starting... except from multiple clubs all over the rest of the country are up and running again-

Me and my friend have had problems with a couple of the comittie members in the past, but the 2 who turned on us today have Usually been on our side-

It’s been a shit day anyway as I lost my darling little dog today and am feeling very blue- so may be over reacting slightly but still ...
please be nice-

Disclaimer- as the thing seems to be at the moment to jump down people’s throats with huff about CV19 - and people dying and all that jazz- I’m well aware of it but none the less this is an activity which can be performed as socially distant distances and where we are all inherently sensible as we have to be to do this hobby- so please no “but people are dying and the worlds in crisis” comments as they are neither helpful nor relevant to this situation

Flowers. People are weird at the moment and those without much insight are proj citing all their Vivid frustration on the wrong people. Try and ignore. BrewFlowers

FFS projecting their Covid frustration!

MacduffsMuff · 15/08/2020 00:29

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, is this to do with a hobby or is it work related? Sorry if I'm being thick. I'm really sorry about your dog too, that's really sad. 😟

CV19 - and people dying and all that jazz - not a great choice of words to be honest.

EduCated · 15/08/2020 01:42

Your description of it doesn’t sound particularly like you’ve been ganged up on, unless they were particularly rude?

COVID guidance generally at the moment is so shoddy and changeable that it demands quite a level of personal responsibility from individuals in some cases. I can understand people not being completely comfortable with that, especially for a hobby (as opposed to a work situation). Also people deal with things differently - you might find it a welcome distraction, others may find it an added stress and worry.

Presumably you can’t train without committee involvement/approval? Do you have any information about how others have started back up?

I do have to agree the ‘all that jazz’ comes across as deeply insensitive and poorly chosen phrasing, but putting that aside.

It sounds like you’ve had a rough day Flowers Take a deep breath and a step back, hopefully with a large glass of something nice. Losing a pet is horrible - give yourself time and space.

Sounds like you already had the large glass of something nice before you wrote this.

katy1213 · 15/08/2020 01:54

The hobby that dare not speak its name - again!

Happylittlethoughts · 15/08/2020 08:18

Sorry, no idea what's going on except possibly the typical bumbling committee problem.
Don't see any "ganging up".

GreyishDays · 15/08/2020 08:24

I think you’ve missed a crucial bit of the story.

RosieLemonade · 15/08/2020 08:40

What’s the hobby?

GoshHashana · 15/08/2020 08:46

I honestly don't understand what's happening. You've explained it very poorly. "All that jazz" is a horrible turn of phrase.

happinessischocolate · 15/08/2020 08:47

Why can't you and your friends do this hobby without getting a committee members permission?

Or if other groups based around this hobby are up and running again could you not just join them?

I'm not sure why you have to be so vague!

Sorry for the loss of your dog, that's heart breaking Thanks

I am manager at a place where we hire rooms for things like you hobby.
We have around 10 rooms of different sizes and before Covid on about 80 % capacity.Would you like to know how many bookings we have for September?
2 commercial one offs, 2 regular.

Almost everything has cancelled until Christmas. Your hobby is simply doing what almost all are.

Rooms are approximately 1/4capacity, we need full risk assessments.
Your committee members may also find themselves liable if something happens, that's the case for a number of our groups.

Phone a few friends, see if they are happy to meet up and hire a room in the meantime, but don't think you are being badly done by the committee who have probably looked at it in detail and are as upset as you at deciding they can't restart.
