..and for the sake of my children, I had to overcome my fear of spiders.
When I was a child I was really frightened of them and it was made worse because my mother liked them and would catch them in her hand and come near us with the damned things. I never knew what she was going to do the barmy bitch.
When I became a mum, if one appeared, I would remain calm, catch it in a glass or on the end of a brush and remove it quickly and put it out. I would never kill them. I tried not to scream...lol
My children are scared to death of them so what ever I did it did not have the desired effect.
Today, in my house, the mother of all spiders appeared on the stairs. It was a beast. My 28 year old daughter screamed the place down, in front of my grandson who found the whole scenario very amusing.
I had to come and catch it and put it in the garden. It was very agitated in the glass, but when I tried to liberate it , it didn't want to leave the safety of the glass.
And my point is ?? Well, in the interests of the humble spider, big as some of them are, did you know they are blind, and that they feel fear just like we do?
Don't get me wrong, I do not like them, but I respect them.
End of lesson :)
