I can’t sit cross legged

What exercise or activities should I do to practise. ?

I agree @EBearhug Virasana can be difficult on a hard floor or if you have a propensity to knee issues, an adaptation can be to double / triple up the thickness of a standard yoga mat for extra padding. Or it may not be a posture to attempt. Also a cushion tucked behind the calves in Virasana is helpful to remove the pressure on knees.

There are many alternatives to these seated postures, over the years I've tried many and settled on a few favourites that I find comfortable, especially Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with legs not crossed but one in front of the other. Caveat, it may not be 'easy' for some!

It’s a bad habit to sit crossed legged. So if you can’t do it, it is a positive not a problem.

Since when has it been a bad habit?

Are you mixing it up with sitting with your legs crossed - this is not the same thing.

We are not talking about a habit, this is seated crossed legs which is a yoga and meditation posture that goes back thousands of years.

You probably need to work on hip opening exercises. Look on youtube for beginners yoga and find one that you like. Start slowly, ten minutes a day would give results in time.
