Is every single holiday cottage booked for August?

We had our first baby in July and are desperate to go away somewhere nice in the country to get out of our boiling hot city flat and have a break after a very stressful pregnancy. DH's boss has just recently encouraged them all to take their annual leave this month as he suddenly thinks September onwards looks busy. We had been planning to book something in September once children are back at school, but now that won't be possible and we now find ourselves looking for self catering accommodation for August when it seems the entire population has already booked everything up!

Does anyone know of any websites at all where there might be cancellations, or any other UK self catering cottages still available?

Airbnb seems to have some availability, but it probably depends where you’re looking at going - and it’s all pretty expensive. I think that’ll likely be the case anyway; as demand for UK holidays is insane and it’s peak time.

We’d hoped to dart away somewhere for a few nights as a mini moon, but I can’t stomach the price increase right now!

A lot are sold out, I've heard a few people have put blocks on booking to discourage visitors.

Seems to be plenty of apartments to rent in London or Edinburgh (without the Fringe) but sadly nothing in the countryside!

Have you thought about hotels. Most are desperate for visitors.

Can your DH speak to boss about raking the very first week of September off instead... Many schools are going back late that week so you will get much more availability...

Looking for something too for the bank holiday week but everything is either too expensive or not big enough. We are going with dm and df so it can’t be too far because df won’t drive too far anymore. Some of the prices I’ve been quoted have been ridiculous!

We’ve booked a cottage in mines resort Aberfeldy at the end of the month. It all depends on budget and distances etc .

Being cooped up in a hotel room with a newborn is definitely not what we need! We are looking for a bit of outside space as we live in a city flat. And we want to cook for ourselves, not eat out for every meal.

Area wise, anywhere in England really. We are London based so preferably not the furthest end of Cornwall or far north as we would prefer not too long a drive, but aside from that any countryside area.

Dates, I get the all clear after my c-section next week so any time after that.

I can see some cottages available if you go right at the end of Aug OP. Dep 28 Aug - would that work? The schools start going back from 1st Sept so if you go that week you should have plenty of choice.

If you look on Airbnb there is plenty of choice. Just put in a large geographic area like Yorkshire, Suffolk or Northumberland and you'll see.

Try Hoseasons, Wales might be a good bet.

Going inland will give you more options if you have a car. We found plenty on air B and B though tend to be larger as those less easy to book out at the moment.

We booked recently and there wasnt a lit of avaiabilty unless you wanted to spend a fortune but there seemed a few available in Derbyshire yorkshire and Scotland, more than anywhere on the south coast.my DC are desperate for the beach but weve ended up somewhere inland.

We have somewhere booked in the uk and now might not make it if France is on the quarantine list! So keep searching since maybe more will be online shortly if this is announced. Totally fed up, but cant do much about it.

This sounds thoroughly depressing and not a holiday at all!

Air b&b does have some availability still OP, but agree with a poster upthread who said look for broad areas in your search ie counties
