I'm after suggestions for a family fancy dress with 1980s theme.
Me, my husband and 3 kids. (1,6 &10)

Happy to buy or make costumes just want it to be something good but my mind is blank.
Any help much appreciated

Village people. (late 70s really, but who is going to remember).

maddiemookins16mum · 09/08/2020 17:30

Boy George is always a good one.

Where’s Wally, Wenda, Wizzard Whitebeard, outlaw and the dog!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Care Bears
Pac Men

What about an 80's tv show - you've got the right number to be The Simpsons.
Or characters from Dallas, Grange Hill, Miami Vice, the A Team, 'Allo 'Allo, Fraggle Rock.
Depends how dressed up you want to be - couple of obvious props or full costume, face paint, wigs. I went to an 80s movie themed party with white vest, jeans, boots, cowboy hat as Thelma (or maybe Louise), there were others there from Beetlejuice, Alien, Ghostbusters, Sister Act, Annie,

An aerobics instructor complete with leg warmers, head band and a leotard that cuts you in half. All in pastel of course. You tube have some great examples.

maras2 · 10/08/2020 01:23

Culture Club.
Or as maddiemookins says you could all be Boy George.

1point21gigawatts · 10/08/2020 08:04

Ghostbusters with the baby as Slimer

Gunpowder · 10/08/2020 08:07

Love the ghostbusters idea.

TitianaTitsling · 10/08/2020 08:09

Like Ghostbusters too! Or go as the band Kiss?

DialSquare · 10/08/2020 08:13

You could all dress up as Spandau Ballet.

crumpet · 10/08/2020 08:15

Just came on to suggest Ghostbusters 😄

Or you could do pop stars - Boy George has been suggested, but also Adam Ant, Madonna, Cindy Lauper (not sure what sex dc are), Kiss all had very identifiable visuals. Not sure about the baby though in that case!

LionLily · 10/08/2020 08:28

Captain Sensible, and learn the song too, the dc will love it!
Roland Rat

LunaNorth · 10/08/2020 08:31

Put everyone in dungarees and go as Dexy’s Midnight Runners.

LunaNorth · 10/08/2020 08:32

Or zoot suits and go as Madness.

You’ll need a little toy plastic sax and some sunglasses.

TheoneandObi · 10/08/2020 08:33

Easy peasy idea - oversized white t shirt with slogan of choice printed in big black letters a la Katherine Hammett.

Gurtcha · 10/08/2020 08:34

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and a couple of mushrooms.

Different colours of a Rubik’s cube.

30not13 · 10/08/2020 08:39

Wham in the wake me up before you go go video. Although choose life tops can be taken the wrong way these days as I discovered!

strawberrymelons · 11/08/2020 14:51

Ooo all these ideas are fab thank you!
I like ghostbusters as littlest will make a cute slimer haha. My daughter is pushing for mario so she can't be princess peach tho Grin

Best advice is don’t

Just don’t

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 11/08/2020 16:00

Hi-de-hi got a laugh when I went to an 80s party but I'll admit my immediate thought was also Ghostbusters!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 11/08/2020 16:28

Kids from Fame! Leotards and leg warmers a-go-go.
