Saturday night thrills: descaling my Nespresso machine.

Do I have to use the kits they sell on the Nespresso website, or can I just use some of my kettle descaler?

If the former then my Saturday night is ruined. Ruined, I tell you.

I used to use citric acid to do ours. Just don't admit it if you ever have to male a claim on the warranty.

Oh, it's way past that. But thank you - I really object to the idea that Nespresso has super secret descaling powers in its grasp

Ooh, my kind of Saturday night during Covid, OP! 😀 This reply is probably too late now, though.
Our Nespresso is way beyond warranty too and have used kettle descaler for most of the time and it has been fine. I run the solution through once, let it sit for 10 mins or so, then do it once more, then run through with clean water about three times. What fun! Grin think it makes a difference to the taste but can't be sure really.

I do this about once every three months. Any ideas if that's enough? We use it about twice a day.

An aside - My FIL (who is very nice but a bit condescending at times) suggested I do it again when he came to stay as he didn't seem to believe I descaled it every quarter as according to him, women don't tend to be good with such technical things 🤔🤔 we do probably need a new one but we are a bit tight as it still works fine.

I think it depends how hard your water is, oI used to do it every few weeks alongside the kettle (we no longer have the Nespresso).

I was degreasing my cooker hood at 10pm last night, Saturday nights are so exciting in this house. In mitigation I had just got back from the pub.

Haha! Glad I am not alone. I did it this morning in the end with kettle descaler. Got a bit confused trying to get the descaling programme to work but got all the solution through in the end and rinsed it out (I think)
