Chichester!! Trips and places to go

We're off next week and I'm usually too stressed packing to get day trips sorted and we usually have a lovely relaxing, if quite boring week away but I'd like to expand our horizons this time!!

DS8 and DD5 and we're staying at the campsite in Selsey but happy to drive up to an hour or so for a trip.

So good adventure parks / outdoor walks. Not massive fans of National Trust etc unless v good for kids. Maybe some indoor museums (if open??) or other diversions if weather is crap. Doesn't necessarily have to be a 'wow' or big ticket thing eg theme park just some advice from locals or those in the know would be great.

If u plan to drive from Selsey to Chi go EARLY or late. It is gridlock otherwise!! Everyone heads around the bypass to get to beach.

There are backroads. Do some map work lol!

I wouldn't go to Smith and western or nando's or frankie and Benny's when there are so many amazing independent restaurants in and out of town.

De la vente in selsey itself.
Reccomend 'the mezze' in bognor, arties kitchen in chi, lemongrass in chi, the black rabbit in arundel to name 1% of the amazing food we have here.

Arundel castle is good fun, theres a medieval banquet restaurant up the road but I'm not sure if it's open yet.

Check out amberly castle as well, and as for beaches, wittering will take you hours to get to but not many people know about Climping, Elmer, Aldwick and Middleton.

Chichester itself theres not a lot to do, but I too recommend fishbourne Roman palace and weald and downland.

There's a mini golf called jungle paradise adventure. There's an indoor and an outdoor course. You need to pre-book online but it's good fun.

MusicTeacherSussex · 13/08/2020 06:58

So.... how was your trip?!

FusionChefGeoff · 15/08/2020 17:34

We're still here!! Got onto West Wittering beach on Friday so weather crap in the morning but had fun building sandcastles in the afternoon.

Off to De Levante for dinner tonight!

Tesco trip was fine - bit sticky but only 20 mins.

Weather has put most plans on hold unfortunately as not keen on indoor places if we can help it but might try the golf place tomorrow.

If it picks up a bit I'd love a walk but kids are fair weather walkers Grin

If you can park and it’s dry but not full on beach weather, there is a crabbing pool just along from East Head. You can walk there via the footpath through the church. Bits of bacon, a bucket and a line available from one of local shops will keep them happy for hours.

MusicTeacherSussex · 15/08/2020 23:22

Definitely recommend the fishbourne roman palace if the weather stays bleak glad you're having a nice time and good food in my homeland. Enjoy your tapas and make sure to have a sangria!!

leafeater · 16/08/2020 07:45

Or the Weald and Downland. It's outside but has plenty of shelter in the historic houses?

Lots of rain later, but you might be able to get outside this morning before the torrents hit!

FusionChefGeoff · 16/08/2020 14:33

Thanks to everyone who suggested Arundel it was a brilliant trip. Couldn't get tickets for castle but in retrospect probably a bit much for our 5 year old so we 'just' did the gardens. I was a bit sceptical but very impressed and kids loved it!

Hiding from a thunderstorm in the tent before heading to indoor golf in a bit!!

Go to Leonardslee Gardens and see the wallabies!

Wigeon · 28/08/2020 22:03

@MusicTeacherSussex - thanks for the Artie’s Kitchen recommendation - we are on a short break in Chichester and just had a lovely meal there today!

Braving West Wittering beach tomorrow - booked the car park a week ago, hoping we’ll manage to get there early enough to beat the traffic I keep reading about! 😬 How early is early?!

MusicTeacherSussex · 30/08/2020 01:05

@Wigeon awesome! Hope you had a blast in our little city x
