Has anyone been to Alton Towers recently?

We are thinking of going in the week but I don't know what to expect. I guess they are not letting in as many people which is a plus but I think the rides are at half capacity which is not so good.

Would be great to hear from someone who has been since they reopened.

Thanks

I went about a week after they opened. I don't like crowds so thought the reduced numbers would make it nicer from that pov.
The kids had never been before so had no expectations which was fortunate.
We did have a good day but it was a mixed picture.
Their social distancing was good, scanned for temperature on arrival, wide paths with keep to the left, same as driving, for distance.
Despite the heavily reduced numbers you Q for just as long as on a busy day with big numbers, because they take a long time to get everyone off at the end of the ride. They supervise each pair of people disembarking to make sure everyone keeps their distance, so good for distance but not for pace of getting everyone through. They also wrote the rides down every half an hour which contributes to the Q time.
Some rides required masks for any age, again good for virus control, but if your child is funny about that might be tricky.
Take away only and no many places to sit, we went on a wet day so more of a problem than if it was a dry day.
Some rides were closed (can't remember all exactly) which was not made known before we booked and two of these were part of the reason we went so that was a disappointment to swallow. (Rita and 13).
So if you love rides its good of course, but don't expect the Q's to be quicker and try to find out which rides are shut.

Don’t bother. They aren’t limiting the numbers allowed in but rides are running at reduced capacity so the queues are horrendous.

Wiped the rides down... 🙄

In fact, when I went earlier this week it was the busiest I’ve ever seen it some people had to queue just to get to the entrance. Go when the kids have gone back to school if you can.

ChickensMightFly · 07/08/2020 17:24

The numbers were limited when we went, 14th July...

ChickensMightFly · 07/08/2020 17:25

Oh wow! Can't imagine the queuing times if they aren't limiting numbers! They were bad enough when we went and from a numbers point of view it was like a ghost town!

TimetohittheroadJack · 07/08/2020 17:29

We were there last week. Queues for all the big rides were between an hour and two hours each.

Queued about 30 mins to get into the park. Queued about 30 mins to get lunch. Queued about 20 mins to get a slush. Queues about 30 mins to get out the car park.

I won’t be rushing back

banjaxxed · 07/08/2020 17:41

I know someone who has been and said the rides queues were as normal, numbers are restricted into the park but so are people per ride so it evens out 1 hour approx for most. 1.5 hours for Wickerman

Also. The queue to get in was horrendous. 1.25 hours. No monorail, so it's a hefty walk even if you arrive early

Thank you that is really helpful. I think I might give it a swerve.
