I remember my dad saying something when I was a young teen, about how at the age of 40 or so something dreadful happens to popular music. Obviously that was silly because the music I was playing was excellent. Obviously the 80s and 90s were definitive for music and that is where my music tastes have firmly stayed ever since.
As my own eldest child approaches year 7 I suspect that the house is shortly going to be filled with some terrible noise, not nearly as good as the proper music we had in the 80s and 90s. DS currently listens to our music with no problems and enjoys Queen and Meatloaf as is right and proper, but I suspect as soon as Senior School starts this music will be redefined as deeply uncool (or whatever phrase is used to mean deeply uncool these days as I think the word cool is also uncool isn't it now?) and replaced with something else. I am accepting this as my inescapable fate, but I wonder if there are any current artists that I could steer them towards that won't leave me grieving for the good old days too much?
