Just when I thought school drop offs/pick ups couldn't get any more fun...

Next term... Two different drop off times. Two different gates. Possibility of Friday afternoon closures. I can accept all that...

Network rail have announced they are doing work on two rail bridges in town. Causing road closures for six months. I live on one side of the railway (a mile outside of town) and children go to school on other side of the railway....

Oh well. I joked to DH I was going to drive to the edge of town and then do the 30mins walk across town as it is likely to be quicker. Previous road works have caused queues past where I live to get into town. It's nearly an hour's walk due to hills. And if we are late, I'm not sure if the school will allow the children in. Maybe they will have to be lenient for those who live on the other side of the tracks!

No point to this, just a bit of a moan really...

Ack!
Could you cycle?

DollyMixtureLulus · 06/08/2020 21:30

Do school know? If there are a few of you in the same boat let them know.

TheABC · 06/08/2020 21:32

Another vote for cycling/scooting in, depending on your kids age. What's the pedestrian access like to be?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/08/2020 21:37

Can't cycle due to the A road and steep hill. We are way out of catchment, it was the nearest schooI with space when we moved last year. So we are likely to be one of the few affected. It's just frustrating... It was published in local newspaper today are town is going into meltdown over it... Including why they couldn't wait until the bypass was finished.

Grantham? The bypass isn't due to finish for ages yet. One of those things.

But a very cheap runaround and leave it on the school side of the bridge?!

PoppedTheHipAgain · 06/08/2020 22:26

Sounds like our town at the moment. They've closed the road by the big Tesco where one of the rail bridges is, which means you have to go further down and cross the railway by the train station, to get into town. Then on our side of town, they're building a bridge from our estate over the London-bound railway line...

Could you ask school of you can drop the later kid off earlier? Ours has different drop offs but you drop them all off at the earlier time and pick up at the later time.

Is there someone in your children's class who would meet you at the other side of you walked the middle bit and handed over the kids? They'll be I'm bubbles

Thank you for listening to me moan last night. It is Grantham. We live outside town, and the traffic getting into town in the morning can be horrendous normally. But the truth is, I'd happily walk the whole two miles on my hands if it means they can attend school next term. We were planning on introducing a couple of walking pick ups next term anyway... Maybe it will be walking drop offs instead. Before we moved back to the UK they had to leave a lot earlier for school anyway.
