Passport disaster.

Has anyone done a passport renewal in the last month? Or during this COVID fun? I was so busy assuming my holiday would be cancelled I only remembered my daughters passport needed renewing recently. I sent if about 10 days ago and when I checked it said it was being processed on August 4th!
We could ( who knows!) if things go ahead be travelling in two weeks.

The passport office said it will take 6 weeks.

Do I have a hope?
I’m such a muppet.

Give it a go OP, who knows, your application may only take 5 weeks instead of 6 too. Oh wait...

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 07:02

@Sheenais As I said... you seem a delight.

Don't lose hope!

I've just checked the emails we received for my DD's passport renewal very recently.

They acknowledged old passport receipt on 14th July and it was 'on its way' on the 24th July. We received it on Tuesday 30th (which is when we booked our holiday!).

From what I remember it was 'processing' for about 4 days.

My passport was back in a week. DD's took longer because she was a muppet and applied for a 'renewal' rather than a 'first adult passport' . Fortunately she hasn't changed much since she was about 4!

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 07:07

@whiteroseredrose Oh thank you. I’m trying to remain hopeful.

My renewal for ds came quickly too. The longest waiting time was for them to say they'd received the documents, once it went to 'processing' I think it was only a couple of days before I got the new passport in the post (maybe a week tops)

We then decided to cancel our holiday (to France) anyway 🙈

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 07:12

@Bezzi wow that is fast. I’m the same it took ages for the passport to show up as received. Sorry about your holiday.

I think you will be fine DS first passport took 3 weeks in total.

Longtalljosie · 07/08/2020 07:17

@Goslowlysideways do try Twitter whatever Sheenais says. Often they ask you to DM your full name so they are doing something.

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 07:26

@Longtalljosie I will. They seem to encourage people to DM them so I think it’s worth a try. Nothing to lose.

@tmh88 That is fast.

I submitted child renewal application online 26th July. They text me saying they received old passport 2nd August (Sunday!). Got a text yesterday saying it's all been approved and they will advise when dispatched. Seems to be going smoothly. Unfortunately we aren't waiting for it as no trips abroad booked for us.
You can contact them to speed it up if you have a trip booked. Look on their website.

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 07:48

@Cuddling57 That’s amazing.

I applied on the Sunday, they received the old passport on the Thursday, I uploaded the photo on the following Tuesday and they ‘attempted’ delivery on the Friday so less than 2 weeks. However, tnt didn’t actually knock on the door so it was actually another week before I got it as they are muppets.

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 08:09

@superram Incredible. If they say by some miracle it’s being delivered I’ll sleep in my front garden.

There were just four working days between the receiving my old passport and dispatching my new one.

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 08:41

@BadLad Was that recently? Wow.

SimonJT · 07/08/2020 08:42

The one show said this week that if you have a holiday booked and you call the passport office your passport will be prioritised.

BadLad · 07/08/2020 08:56

Yep. I got an email telling me they'd received my old one, and later that day another one saying my application was being processed, and they'd contact me if they needed more information, otherwise id receive it in 8 weeks. The next day they emailed me to say they didn't need anything, and it was being printed. Two days later I got an email saying it had been sent.

Wibblewobble03 · 07/08/2020 09:10

Yes sent mine off two weeks ago and received the new one in the post yesterday, just waiting on the old one to be returned. Not fast tracked or anything special just the usual application :)

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 09:21

@Badlad impressive. I wonder if it depends where you are in the country.
@Wibblewobble03 Speedy!

It seems possible then.

OP posts:
Thecobwebsarewinning · 07/08/2020 09:45

I think it will be fine too. It’s just a renewal so if it was processed on the 4th, even allowing a week for printing and posting, it should be with you well ahead of your travel date.

Goslowlysideways · 07/08/2020 10:02

@Thecobwebsarewinning
I go between panic and optimism then back to panic.
Self inflicted panic is the worst.
Never again

I sent mine off for renewal on 27 July, was notified yesterday that it has been processed, and that it should be despatched very shortly.

summersolstice43 · 07/08/2020 10:11

If you're not travelling for a few weeks you should be ok. If they were processing on 4th you should have it by the end of next week. My daughters took about 2 and a half weeks from posting to getting it back so fingers crossed for you

Thecobwebsarewinning · 07/08/2020 10:14

I feel your pain. A few years ago I realised that both DC had 4 months left on their passports. This was 10 days before they were due to go on holiday to America with my MIL and they needed at least 6 months on their passports for that. Luckily a day out at the Passport Office in PettyFrance sorted it and MIL never found out.

And we are both doing better than a friend who only realised her sons passport was a year out of date when it was pointed out to her at Gatwick check in!
