QUICK HELP - Smell from slow cooker baked potatoes

Blankiefan · 04/08/2020 14:13

I'm trying baked potatoes in the slow cooked for the first time. I've always been a bit dubious about it but I'm around to supervise so thought I'd give it a go.

I'm 1 hour in (Good Housekeeping says 4 hours on high). There's a definite smell. Not quite burning but in that area. It's also crackling away a bit inside the foil.

Is this normal or will my house burn down?

For those following the drama (!), the hòuse didn't burn down and the potatoes did cook. I was underwhelmed. They were fine but not like oven baked ones. Also, not like microwaved - more kind if steamed I suppose. Totally not worth the angst and more hassle than chucking them in the microwave.

Glad the house didn't burn down.
I usually zap in the microwave then rub in oil and rock salt and put in the oven to crisp

I usually buy frozen baked potatoes and then bake them again. You never end up with the random hard potato that way Wink

I do mine in slow cooker but crisp them up a bit after in the oven or grill.
