Hotel with an outdoor pool within Surrey/Winchester/Stratford triangle?

DH and I have have a rare chance for a night away without DS at the end of the month and I am desperate to find a hotel with an outdoor pool! Don't need a spa and would prefer rural, but definitely outdoor not indoor pool. Also not fussed about fancy foodie restaurants. Just looking for some blissful relaxing time.

Location is a bit odd (sorry for the weird description in the title!) as DS will either be looked after by DM near Birmingham or at our home in Surrey, and we don't want to spend long travelling so broadly looking anywhere down the M40 corridor, or M3 probably as far as Winchester, and anywhere in between.

I've tried using map searches on travel sites, but haven't found any which separate outdoor from indoor pools and it's getting frustrating, so though I'd ask here instead!

It will be our only night away this year, so no fixed budget, but if it's pricey it needs to be worth it.

Is Tynley Hall Hotel in the right area, check it out as it's lovely there?

SurreyMumOfOne · 03/08/2020 13:36

Thanks for replying! Can't find a Tynley but I've found Tylney, location looks fine, I'll have a look at it, thank you.

Rhinefield House may be outside your range but has a small outdoor pool. At the top end of price range, Clivedon. However, we stayed at Rhinefield a couple of years ago and did have a lovely time, but my idea like yours of relaxing by the pool was not so successful. Not a lot of sunbeds, and with children constantly in the pool splashing and shouting it wasn't relaxing at all around there. I appreciate families have a right to use it, but I'd love it if hotels had a couple of hours end of day which was just for adults!

Great fosters in Egham used to have an outdoor pool. Probably still has.

The Berystede in Ascot or Runnymede Hotel in Egham both have outdoor pools.

Pennyhill Park is fab. You don’t need to use their Michelin restaurant because they have a full bar menu, and the spa/pool facilities are all free and amazing.

MsLumley · 03/08/2020 13:41

Great Fosters does too.

Another vote for Pennyhillpark

The Runnymede is lovely, you can also hire their boats and have a river trip

SurreyMumOfOne · 03/08/2020 14:32

Thanks everyone! Just had a look through- I didn't realise Great Fosters and the Runnymede had outdoor pools! I know of them both and sadly they're just too close to the M25 for any peace and quiet.

Pennyhill looks like and option if I can persuade DH it's worth it, as does Tylney. Having said no fixed budget, I'm not sure I could justify the Cliveden rates 😲.

Berystede pool is a bit too small for a decent swim.

So helpful though, much appreciated!
