More of an AIBU about Ocado, here

Just wondering...I know online shopping is very data driven so do you think they personalise what's out of stock from your 'regulars' to encourage you to buy brands that are more expensive? Things like cleaning products, not fresh food.

It's not only me who's querying this- friends are too.

For instance, I want to re-order certain Waitrose own products that are regulars for me (going back pre-Covid) and they are showing out of stock.

Now, I know Waitrose and Ocado will part company in 3 weeks, so it could be that they are reducing stock.

Because when I go into Waitrose those items are available.

Most of what’s out of stock is from Waitrose. I think they’ve stopped restocking.

Chuly · 02/08/2020 15:50

They will have been running down Waitrose stock for months and only replenishing fresh items.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 02/08/2020 16:00

It must be due to winding down the Waitrose stock. There's less than a month to go now.
I'm sad to be losing the Waitrose essentials. Apparently they will be replaced by new M&S products made especially for Ocado.

Defiantly41 · 02/08/2020 16:12

... or you could just switch to Waitrose delivery service? They cover most postcodes these days

Juiceey · 02/08/2020 16:16

It's definitely that they're winding down Waitrose stock. I placed an order last night and 3/4s of the Waitrose things I buy were out of stock. BUT I don't mind really as I'm happy about being able to get M&S things :)

Juiceey · 02/08/2020 16:16

And I've been buying loads of Ocado own brand things recently and it's all been great. I'm a convert.

JinglingHellsBells · 02/08/2020 16:21

@Defiantly41 I am registered with Waitrose and used to get deliveries years ago, then stopped as they opened a branch closer to me. However, as I'd not ordered online from them for a while I've not been able to get a delivery slot since Covid.

My basket at the moment is around 50-50 Ocado and Waitrose but not sure if I'll stick with them when it's M&S. I don't tend to buy ready meals - cook from scratch- so not sure M&S will cut it.

Looks like they are rising to the challenge of creating more slots for delivery -already up from 60k to 160k and plans for 250k according to this internetretailing.net/strategy-and-innovation/strategy-and-innovation/john-lewis-partnership-outlines-a-digital-first-strategy-for-world-where-20-of-waitrose-sales-and-60-of-john-lewis-are-made-online-21785

I've always found going online just after midnight the best chance of a wide range of slots (whichever retailer I'm using)

JinglingHellsBells · 02/08/2020 17:09

I'm in bed long before midnight @Defiantly41 but thanks for the info.

Apparently M&S are developing a brand new range akin to the Waitrose Essentials (but a greater range of products) so I shall give it a chance.

Does anyone know when the switch actually happens and when we can start to put the M&S products into the Ocado baskets?

Melfish · 02/08/2020 19:01

Apparently it'll be from 1 Sept.
I think I'll be shopping with them less as there is a M&S food shop about a 10 min walk. I don't like a lot of M&S products as they are a shrine to palm oil.
Waitrose has recycled bog roll and more palm oil free alternatives so I'll probably cycle the half hour to pick up certain items a couple of times a month.
