If so, why is the sand indigo? It is indigo, not black. Googling doesn't seem to help. Just curiosity, I've not eaten any :o

I went there recently & don't remember anything but usual pale tan sand.

ArriettyJones · 01/08/2020 21:38

I don’t remember that. Holkham is the absolutely huge beach, isn’t it?

TrickyKid · 01/08/2020 21:42

I've never seen blue sand at Holkham.

Jason118 · 01/08/2020 21:50

It's do do with what happens when you get to the sea Grin

StealthPolarBear · 01/08/2020 21:50
Confused It was sandy colouredat the very top but as soon as you dug in even a tiny amount it was a rich indigo, as of last Thursday. How very very odd.

We have a holiday home close by so know it very well. We must never of dug down deep enough to see the change. I'll remember to check in a few weeks when we go! If I ever find out the reason I'll update you Smile

Go there all the time, love the place. Never noticed this but never dug down either. Bloody love Wells Next The Sea...

If ds hadn't asked and sil hadn't been there I'd have assumed I dreamt it

I saw that too recently at Wells beach and I’ve no idea why it’s rust colour.

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/08/2020 22:16

*that

NooNooHead · 01/08/2020 22:18

Holkham is my favourite beach and just down the road from my parents'. It is beautiful and such soft sand. I don't remember it being an indigo colour though...

StealthPolarBear · 01/08/2020 22:27

That's a relief! It was definitely indigo rather than rust though but even Google images doesn't help.
We were at Wells beach a few days earlier! Sand coloured sand there.

I’ve never noticed it before but did google reasons for coloured sand and it’s due to minerals in the underlying rocks being eroded.

Time40 · 01/08/2020 22:31

Maybe it's something left over from the filming of Annihilation, which wasn't that long ago? The fabulous lighthouse scene was shot there.

Thank you. That was my guess but I couldn't find the words to explain to ds! It can't have been to do with filming, it was such a big area

Normal yellow sand? My horsey friends go lots, their pictures show normal sand, even with huge horses galloping along the beach?
