I have never like Gin and tonic, I find the taste far too bitter. But.. I really want to like it!

Someone said you can now get different flavoured tonic water - would that make a difference and make it not so bitter?

What about Pink Gin? Does that taste a bit softer?

I like orange gin with fever tree clementine tonic water
I don't like a normal G & T

Biancadelrioisback · 01/08/2020 11:49

I've only just got into gin and it happened because I was bought a bottle of lime gin (tanq) and I had it with lime tonic. It was really nice and I've explored lots of other flavours of both tonic and gin now.
I recommend pink gin as it's sweeter (whitley neill do some great flavours like rhubarb and ginger).
I think it's getting used to the tonic that's the difficult part but a really nice tonic is easier to pallet

Try gin with fizzy pineapple or other fruit flavour pop.

Pink Gin is gin with angostura bitters so is even more bitter!

You don’t have to like gin, it’s very of the moment and will probably get passé soon (I will still love it though, always have, but I just like bitter flavours)

TeddyIsaHe · 01/08/2020 12:15

Aldi Orange Blossom & Peach gin with light tonic water is deeeeelicious and doesn’t have that characteristic bitter taste. Very easy to drink too much though!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/08/2020 12:16

The last time I had a G&T, I had the most vivid nightmare ever - I threw myself out of bed in my sleep. So never again.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/08/2020 12:18

Whitley raspberry gin was a game changer for me. Never was a fan of G&T but love it now.

cremuel · 01/08/2020 12:23

If you don’t like tonic water, drink gin with something else. It’s just a weird hangover of the empire that we always drink gin with tonic. You can mix it with anything you like - lemonade, ginger beer, fruit juice, whatever.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 01/08/2020 12:23

I hate tonic so have always had it with lemonade!

Elouera · 01/08/2020 12:27

I'd suggest trying flavoured gins or gin liqueurs, rather than just trying a flavoured mixer. I love asda's extra special ones. £10 a bottle and delicious with diet lemonade or soda. My favourites are rhubarb and ginger or their raspberry and rose, which has a glittery, shimmer when shaken.

Gin liqeurs are sweeter than straight gin, and lower in alcohol and might be a good intro before you like the stronger, plainer ones.

Babymamma192 · 01/08/2020 12:28

Try Gordons white peach gin with lemonade and lots of ice it's not bitter and is so yummy!

IrishCream123 · 01/08/2020 12:31

Are you sure it’s the gin you’ve not liked? I always hated gin and tonic. I won a bottle of gin one Christmas time so tried it again. It was the tonic I didn’t like. So I have my gin with cranberry juice or rose lemonade (Fentimans)

Sarahbeans · 01/08/2020 12:35

Having a good tonic really makes a difference. An affordable but nice tonic water is Fevertree. I much prefer it.

I don't like bitter gins either. if you want a really sweet gin try a Parma violet gin. It tastes just like the Parma Violet sweets from the 70s. Whitley Neil do it also this brand:

Ordinary violet gin is also nice, but not quite as sweet. I'm also liking this pink cherry gin which is also quite sweet.

I also have friends who prefer gin and lemonade. You could try that. It is also sweeter.

Emsmomma · 01/08/2020 12:39

I drink gin with coke. I get so many funny looks about it but I really like it (and whenever friends try it they are pleasantly surprised too!)

willowandsage · 01/08/2020 12:40

Rhubarb gin with ginger beer or ginger ale is absolutely delicious!

MrsMariaReynolds · 01/08/2020 12:43

Gin is hideous and overrated and long overdue for the trend to end

Stick to vodka ;)

hippohector · 01/08/2020 13:01

Oooh lots of suggestions to try, cheers!

Tanquerry Sevilla with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic and a slice of blood orange.

Delilah.

TSSDNCOP · 01/08/2020 13:03

Delish not Delilah ffs

Galvantula · 01/08/2020 13:04

Tanqueray Sevilla is also nice with ginger ale or lemonade. :)

I also thought I hated gin but it turned out to be the tonic so I'm experimenting a bit now!

Polkadotties · 01/08/2020 13:05

Whitley neill raspberry is lovely. I alway drunk lite tonic, preferably fevertree

wintertime6 · 01/08/2020 13:07

Rhubarb and ginger gin is yummy, mixed with ginger ale. Not bitter at all.

iklboo · 01/08/2020 13:16

Snap @wintertime6.

ivegotthisyeah · 01/08/2020 13:20

You need lemonade I am not a fan of to ice but I have lemonade with mine. A firm fav is Whitley and neils rhubarb gin with ginger ale it sounds awful ( I don't like ginger ale on its own) but it's delicious.
Blood orange gin with lemonade is also yummy!
