What would be your minimum bedroom size for two people?

Looking at buying homes and there's such a massive variation in bedroom sizes within the same price bracket. Would would be your min bedroom size for a couple to feel comfortable in?

DP and I have a double bed each so I’d need a big room if I moved! At the very least, big enough for a King size, preferably with a spare room in case his fidgeting drove me mad. Not sure how big that would be in metres and it depends a bit on layout etc and whether it has built in wardrobes - and if it has an en-suite then that’s one less usable wall for furniture to sit against etc so that would be a factor.

we have a 3m x 3m spare room with double bed, fitted wardrobes and bedside cabinets, and it is usable, in the sense that two people can get out of bed on opposite sides and not bump in to each other, but I think it would be awkward if any smaller.

Formerly had a terraced house where all the rooms were 12 ft 6 " square, and thought that was small. (about 4m sq)

Preferably you would have room for a dressing table/desk and at least one chair.

Hotel bedrooms are designed to make the best use out of available space, have a look at some.

It also depends on the shape of the room and positioning of windows and doors. Sometimes it’s easy to comfortably furnish a smaller room.

Anyway, if a property in the same price bracket as others is bigger, I’d just go with that.

Room for a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 bedside tables. Ideally with enough space to walk around the room with all doors/drawers open,, but I don't have enough room for that and my bedroom is fairly spacious.

I don't like bedrooms that have much more space than that - I like to feel cosy and cocooned in bed, and I have trouble falling asleep in a room where there is too much empty space or the walls are too far away.

I’ve noticed rooms are incredibly tiny in the UK to the point of absurdity. OH and I are looking to buy a place in the next few years and I just keep shaking my head in despair. There’s no way my grown up self is sharing a 3m x 3m room with another adult being happy about it. That’s way too small.

For me, a minimum of 4.5m x 4.5m feels right to fit a UK king sized bed (in the US that’s a queen), dressers, night stands, standing lamps, and other furniture while still being to move around properly.

For adults I’ve never felt we needed a massive bedroom although we do have a super king bed so need the space for that, wardrobe and chest of drawers and small amount of space to get dressed. DH and I are rarely trying to get ready at the same time so don’t need much space for that.

Space for a super king bed, a big chest of drawers and a dressing table. Depends on the room layout entirely but my current bedroom is 6 x 4.5 and it's a tight fit.

It would be great to have space for things like books, a laundry hamper and other things as well. @sqirrelfriends your room sounds like a great size for me but I’m used to even bigger primary bedrooms in the US.

Our bedroom is 12 x 11 and that’s probably the minimum I could deal with. We’ve just put an offer in on somewhere with a 9 x 14 master which would work though. Can’t be dealing with a tiny room but at the same time, I’m a fan of a minimal bedroom so don’t have lots of furniture to put in there. It’s more important to me to have a living room that can store all my books and a bathroom with space for a laundry hamper, I don’t want all that stuff in my bedroom anyway.

This was one of our main criteria when we bought our house. It was ridiculous how many houses we viewed where the master would struggle to fit a king size bed, or there was barely enough room to squeeze past the bottom of a double bed to walk to the other side of the room.

The main bedroom in our house is roughly 4.2m x 3.6m (I think)! We have a large built-in wardrobe, which isn’t included in those dimensions. We have a super king bed and large bedside tables and the room feels really spacious. We have plenty room for a chest of drawers, if we wanted them.

Our old house was as small as I'd want, double bed, person width at foot of bed, bedside tables, 2 chests of drawers and a small corner wardrobe in the entrance corridor (extension so odd lay out).

Current house is fortunately bigger. In the current climate I'd want space for a desk if we didn't have a spare room for an "office".

Space for a king-size would be nice!

Our bedroom is just a bit bigger than 4x3m but that is from bay window to wall and wall to recess on side of chimney breast. We had wardrobes built into the recesses and have a king size bed, narrow bedside cabinets (took me ages to find these!) and a tall chest of drawers. There is enough room to walk around the bed and the bay window space could have a chair in it - currently DD crib is in this space. Personally I think it's too small though, it's tight between the wardrobes and bed (they face each other) and we have to be clever with furnishings and paint colours or it feels cramped. We compromised massively on bedroom sizes for a huge downstairs by telling ourselves we just sleep in our room and that was true until DD came along and I had to sit up here every night for six months once she fell asleep ....
On the whole, if you can compensate for your lack of space elsewhere it's ok but I couldn't stand a small house everywhere

Our bedroom is big and has a super king bed, bed side cabinets, dressing table, built in wardrobes, huge bookcase, cabinet with a tv on top and a couple of chairs that I throw clothes on.

I like my bedroom and it feels like my comfy space.
