1970's murder mystery - gift for host

Tomorrow night we're going to a 1970's murder mystery dinner party. What really cool / unique gift would you bring your host apart from the usual?

They're fabulous hosts and very generous people who mean a lot to us.

Doesn't have to be $$$ but I'd like a wow factor.

Your thoughts?

If it can be booze, a bottle of Blue Bun or Mateus.

Or a cheese and pickled onion hedgehog.

OK.. might be getting close to dinner time, I seem to only be able to think about food.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 30/07/2020 17:46

Bit late, because otherwise I'm sure I've seen viewmasters where you can get custom picture disks made.

Nunyabusiness · 30/07/2020 17:48

Can you get hold of a disco ball?

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/07/2020 17:48

A fondue set.
Lava lamp.
Bottle of matteus rose. (to stick a drippy candle in when empty)
Fancy ash tray. (almost everyone smoked)
After eights, milk tray or black magic.

Oooh a fondue set is a heck of a shout!

lemoncarafe · 30/07/2020 17:54

Can you still get babycham and cherryB? I'd take a few bottles of those for fun.
Liebfraumilch
Mateus Rose
Lambrusco
Advocaat and some lemonade to make snowballs.
After eight mints.
Or a load of penny tray sweets.
Brut gift set if it's a guy. Charlie for a woman.....you can get these at pound stretcher shops.

iklboo · 30/07/2020 17:54

I got a fondue set for Xmas. Still haven't used it. Might dig it out when DH's cousin comes round next time (bubbles / social distancing considered).

stroopwafelgirl · 30/07/2020 17:56

Polaroid camera? You can pick one up for around £60 inc a couple of packets of film. Great fun on the night plus they’ll have nice mementos of the occasion.

Leeds2 · 30/07/2020 17:57

A Sara Lee frozen gateau.

We've got a fondue set that lives at the back of a cupboard. We got it out once and used it with the grandchildren.

jelly mold, a vintage cookbook from a second hand shop.
an apron.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/07/2020 18:08

Good call on the After Eights and 70s wine.

Don't buy a lava lamp or fondue set - just wasting money.

mumwon · 30/07/2020 18:29

if your buy Advocaat (?) &lemonade dont forget the cherries & those plastic sticks or umbrellas
(vesta meals from pound shop - I kid you not I have seen them!!! why I have no idea!)
Quiche Lorraine
cheese & pineapple on sticks (also vile!)
second hand 70's cookery book (invade charity shop!! they will be delighted if you go in they are still unpacking donations!!)

Buttybach · 30/07/2020 18:31

A cheese fondue or a Raclette
Cinzano
Campari
Babycham and glasses
Ingredients for brandy Alexander
Advocaat
One of those large retro 70s paintings of women

Or if you can find a local seller a Portmeirion Totem teaset. So amazingly retro

Buttybach · 30/07/2020 18:32

Hai Karate aftershave (they still make it!)

AuntieStella · 30/07/2020 18:34
