What is this red mark on my DDs big toenail?

The Dr couldn't identify what it was from the photo (phone consultation) and has told me to keep an eye on it calling back if any future issues, but wondering if anyone else has any idea if it looks serious?
I can't post additional photos because DD is away a few days.
The red mark looks like it's under the big toenail. I don't recall any recent trauma but you know what kids are like - clumsy!

Hi, I'm not a doctor but that looks like a small bruise under the nail, I would assume that unless there was pain or it didn't go away.

Looks like a bruise to me too - probably to the nail bed, so it could have happened 3-8 weeks ago depending how far up it was. Keep an eye on it and make sure it's moving along with the nail growth - if it doesn't it may warrant a closer GP look to make sure it's nothing bad.
