Hotel Chocolat velvetiser or pods in Nespresso machine?

We have a Nespresso machine which gets used a lot. I've seen hot chocolate pods available on amazon, apparently you need to flush the machine with water before and after though. Is it a faff? Is the velvetiser easier?

Looking for best possible creamy, non caffeinated hot chocolate made at home for me and 2 DCs.

I’d go for the velvetiser every time. It gets consistently good reviews.

DonLewis · 29/07/2020 14:14

Velvetiser all the way. Its like nothing else!

Bluewavescrashing · 29/07/2020 14:14

How many cups can you make at once?

The velvituser is really easy, quick and easy to clean. You can buy cardboard tubs of the chocolate so the plastic waste is minimal. You can also buy different flavours of chocolate

What about this?

I’ve got a velvetiser...lovely hot chocolate
Also have nespresso machines and have only ever used nespresso brand capsules

Bluewavescrashing · 29/07/2020 14:25

We do recycle our Nespresso pods. DH won't use any other brand in the machine.

We got a velvetiser for Christmas, we use it for both hot chocolate and hot frothy milk for coffee as it's so much easier to clean than the Nespresso (ours had a built in milk frother). We have gradually stopped using the Nespresso completely, we just use our Aeropress (originally bought for holidays) plus the velvetiser now.

You can only make one cup at a time but it doesn't take long.

QueenCT · 29/07/2020 14:29

Spanish hot chocolate. It's very rich and gorgeous!

Deardonkey · 29/07/2020 14:30

Do you have a separate milk frothier for your Nespresso? If so you could use that for making hot chocolate.

Bluewavescrashing · 29/07/2020 14:32

No separate milk frother, no. I'm leaning towards the velvetiser now. It looks good and reviews are great

If you get the velvetiser then it can be cheaper to buy the tubs of chocolate through Amazon subscribe and save as you can then get 15% off

We have a Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser, it makes one fab cup in 2 mins, a doddle to clean, ours is 2 years old I think and looks like new. My DH and kids use it every other day. Kids get sachets from HC as Christmas presents.

EasilyDelighted · 29/07/2020 20:06

We use normal hot chocolate most of the
time in the velvetiser, just get HC as a treat sometimes.

Haybo26 · 29/07/2020 20:13

Any frother will work, your paying through the nose for the hotel choc one. I have the lavazza milk frother. Cost less than £30 and makes luxurious hot chocolate.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 29/07/2020 20:15

Velvetiser all the way. Might just go and have one now!

VirginiaWolverine · 29/07/2020 20:16

I make up the Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate flakes in a saucepan. Is the velvetiser really nicer/easier to the value of £100?

Awkwarddough · 29/07/2020 20:16

Go to the store and try the hot chocolate from there and you can see if you like it. It has a lovely texture but I find it too bitter, i don’t know if you can use other hot chocolate with it 🤷🏻‍♀️

If that helps

EasilyDelighted · 29/07/2020 20:24

It is both easier and nicer than in a pan. Put the milk and chocolate in, press the button, wait a minute or two, job done, lovely and frothy.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 29/07/2020 22:37

Try a different flavour @Awkwarddough

EnjoyingTheSilence · 29/07/2020 22:39

It’s also very pretty and puts a smile on my face @VirginiaWolverine 😊
