Physiotherapy - dd thinking of it as a career - info needed please?

DD is doing GCSEs next year - very good at science and maths, also very sporty and a keen athlete. She is very keen on physiotherapy as a career and I would value any input from physios on how best to support her.
One of the attractions for her is the variety of career paths and it seems to fit well with her interest in sport, her brother attends a special school and she is attracted by the opportunity of one day working with children or adults with special needs.
Any input would be appreciated.

I'm a physio and I love my job!

I would say get as much work experience as possible. Write to your local hospital to see if they can provide a work experience placement ( hard with covid around). Can she volunteer at her brothers school- doing anything - helping out as a volunteer.

Basically the more work experience you can get the better and having an awareness of the breadth of physio e.g. respiratory care, neurological rehab, obs and gynae, research. Sports rehab is a tiny part of it and unis look for people with greater understanding of the role. Reading the phtsio role in covid 19 I imagine will be very topical.

Good luck to her

Thank you for your input - there will definitely be opportunities for her to volunteer in her brother's school as we have a really good relationship. She already attends family school events and helps with PTA fundraising. I know some of the parents of children with complex needs would be open to letting her observe and assist with their children's physio routines at home too.
