Help - I need a new vacuum - what should i buy?

So our not so trusty Dyson has just broken in the middle of hoovering our carpets. I'm not prepared to buy spare parts for the Dyson as they are expensive and I've not been that impressed with it tbh.

So I need to buy a new hoover urgently - we had a cylinder one and I'm not sure if I want another cylinder one or a cordless stick.

Wondering about a Shark, Vax or Gtech. Anyone got any recommendations / views / must avoid at all costs ...

We had a Dyson which was beyond useless! Got the Shark Anti Wrap plug in and it's the best hoover I've ever had. Makes carpets look like new and comes with really handy attachments including upholstery one which is good for the sofas as have a dog!

Miele. Best vacuums ever. Upright if you’ve got more carpet than hard floors.

Thanks - just been looking at the Sharks. How long do they take to charge up?

I have just bought a dyson animal and I love it.
I know you're looking for other brands, so I can recommend miele. My mum has one of those - the small one that plugs in, and she finds it fantastic, the strength on the suction is just like a dyson, except it is not cordless.
I'd say they probably do a cordless one though if you have a look online. It is very good

Miele are recommended by Which. We have had one for about 10 years and are very happy with it. My mum had a Dyson and I hated it.

The Miele cat and dog is by far the best vacuum I've ever had.

Always Miele, they are the best

Shark anti-wrap cordless is the BEST hoover I've ever had by a mile. It's suction is brilliant, it's light, flexible and so easy to zip round more regularly than I used to. It takes 3 hours to charge but the charge will Hoover my entire house (inc 4 bedrooms) twice. It has a light system on the side indicating how much charge left too.
