Booked a week in a seaside cottage, took less time looking things over than I usually do as things were getting snapped up.
Then had a really odd call with the owner yesterday that is making me worry that he is going to be a pain in the arse. First, I found the insistence on a phone call really odd, he said nothing that couldn't be covered in an e mail and as he rambled on for quite some time, I have forgotten lots of what he said.
When I booked I provided details of who is coming (me DP 2 kids under 5) and the booking site said child friendly. I also paid extra for bedding and towels.
He then proceeded to tell me at length that everything will be photographed and videoed before we arrive. (£150 breakage deposit) and then asks do I want all 3 bedrooms made up. Well, I paid for a 3 bed house and paid for bedding so yes I do. He seemed a bit put out by that, saying he had some of his stuff in one of the rooms, I pointed out that I was not paying for his storage (nicely). He is also wanting another call before we go.
I have now looked at the reviews more closely and 95% of them are really positive, but have found two that say he was difficult to deal with and withheld the security deposit for minor stuff. It is odd that none of the reviews mention the rambly phone calls.
Any tips to protect us against a potentially arse hole owner?
