Support thread for those of us who are "heavier" than we look.

I've seen a few threads (including mine) where things get nasty because given our height/weight ratio we should be a bigger size. They all stop short from calling the OP a liar.

I'm 5ft3 and 10.5st (67kg). My waist is 26.5in and fit a size 8. Yes I'm overweight. I do train and have muscle definition, but still to some people my measurements sound put of a work of fiction.

So to all of those who are heavier than you look I believe you!

Some people just love to put others down OP, a lot of it is probably jealousy too. I believe you Grin

I hope you get the support you need. Didn't want to read and run, hun. Stay strong. Someone will be along soon to help.

Me!

When I was a small size 8, I was still 10stone (I’m 5’4”). I had a 23 inch waist.

Currently pregnant and my Bmi is 40. I weigh 17 stone but I’m a size 16. First time I saw the consultant he made me get on the scales three times as I ‘didn’t look that big’ to him.

I’ve got friends the same size and height who are a size 22/24 Confused

Wilburgh · 26/07/2020 09:57

*same weight and height, sorry

dudsville · 26/07/2020 10:05

I saw that thread this morning. I wear two sizes smaller than my measurements would decree, and the clothes i wear are loose fitting. People also always express shock when i say my weight because i "don't look it". Bodies are weird!

Fressia123 · 26/07/2020 10:06

I remembered I once asked a GP and she just told me if I felt fine it was fine. She did weight me twice. At the time I was a size 4 but my BMI was 21-22.

Very fat right now but at 13 stone (5’4”) have a 27” waist and wear 10-12.

Had a whole body scan last year leaving staff perplexed. I have the lean muscle mass of a pro athlete. 😂 at the time I was getting over a serious disease and had been virtually bed-bound for 2 months.

dancemom · 26/07/2020 10:11

Omg this is me!

I'm 5'4, currently weigh 11 stone (at my heaviest) and I'm still in my size 8 jeans.

I see posts on here of people's height and weight and clothes size and I'm incredulous.

Fressia123 · 26/07/2020 10:24

At my fattest I was probably a size 16 (although I think I was still wearing my 14s) . I looked horrendous and I was about 2st heavier. In terms of weigh gain the difference in sizes didn't reflect how much weight difference there was (I genuinely would have thought it would be closer to 3st, but no it was 2st if that!).

I promised myself never to get that heavy ever again.

Yep this is me, currently 12 stone 12 at 5 foot 5 and a comfortable size 12. 11 stone I'm a 10. At 10 stone I had to buy size 8. I have a small waist and relatively flat stomach, big boobs and a big bum and thighs and tend to wear a lot of dresses

Back on the diet tho as I don't like being this size!

LuluBellaBlue · 26/07/2020 10:31

I’ve always had this, luckily when I was younger I played Judo competitively - you fight as per your weight, matching up to the closest in weight to you. No kidding that every girl I fought was always 2/3 inches taller and a lot more solid / bigger than me!!

Even now I’m 5’6 and 77kg / just over 12 stone and fit in a size 12, I need to lose a bit on my tum, bum, hips but tbh I still don’t really look overweight even though I know I am!

At my lowest I was 9 1/2 stone and everyone told me I looked way too thin and from photos I look really underweight - yet I don’t think 9 1/2 stone for 5’6 is underweight!!

Some of us just have heavy dense bones and lots of muscle (under my fat anyway!) I think??

Would be interesting to know if us heavy people are all similar body shapes? I gain muscle and tone very quickly and have very little cellulite etc? So think my natural shape is that.

areyoubeingserviced · 26/07/2020 10:33

I look very slim ( wear size 10) .People are surprised when I tell them that I am over ten stone. My waist is 26 inches.
My dd1 is a size six and is nine stone 2 .
She is very lean, but heavy.
Tbh, clothes size and weight are not necessarily great indicators as to how one appears to others

Fressia123 · 26/07/2020 10:37

Interesting point @LuluBellaBlue I do tend to have a naturally "fit/sporty" body. If I train I gain definition within weeks rather than months. I also don't have much cellulite so very similar to you.

Wilburgh · 26/07/2020 10:41

@LuluBellaBlue interesting point - I’ve never exercised a day in my life though so I don’t think that applies to me Grin

GreekOddess · 26/07/2020 10:43

I do believe you because I have a very slim relative who weighs a lot and has got on the scales to prove her weight!

I'm the same height as you OP and when I was a size 8 with a 26 inch waist I weighed 7 stone 9 pounds.

I look fat if my weight goes over 9stone.

museumum · 26/07/2020 10:49

I’m in this club.
Currently v overweight at 78kg and in a size 14 but at 68kg I’m a size 10 even though that’s still quite far into “overweight” BMI.

ImFree2doasiwant · 26/07/2020 10:52

Yep this is me. I'm 5ft 7 and have always weighed heavier than I look. I'm pretty slim at 11st.

Im currently 13.5 st and wearing size 14 although I think vanity sizing had a lot to do with that.

I'm quite muscular, and if I gain weight it kind of goes on all over.

PeanutButterCheesecake · 27/07/2020 22:05

Me! I'm 14.5 stone and have recently lost 1.5 stone. Was a 16, now the smaller end of a 14. Someone asked me the other day if I planned to lose any more as "don't you think you've lost enough now?" I want to lose another stone or so though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/07/2020 22:27

I'm 5'4, I weigh 11 and a half stone and wear size 10-12. I don't have a very big bust so size 10 tops fit me fine. I carry my weight round my middle (apple shape) so when I wear loose tops and control pants it's not obvious Grin

Fressia123 · 28/07/2020 10:09

Well I've more or less decided to get off the scales. I've only got 1/2 to lose (in my vision anyways) and although I'll still be a an "unhealthy" BMI I think I'll be able to fit my size 6. Clothes comfortably at least that's the idea
