Apparently it's a total waste to bake with real vanilla

It MIGHT be worth it for custard or something. But the real stuff stands zero chance of having its flavours stand up in a 180C oven

I use Dr Oetker vanilla bean paste when making ice cream but I haven't used it in baking or hot desserts yet. I rarely use vanilla extract and pods are so expensive.

Dubious argument really... food tastes better with sugar, salt, flavour enhancers, when concentrated. It doesn't mean that the subtle flavour of natural ingredients does not have their place.
