Hermes pretending to have attempted delivery?

Just that really. In all morning. Just had an email from Hermes saying that they attempted delivery at 09:59. Doorbell didn’t ring, we were in the front room so probably would have noticed someone walk up the drive.

Why would they lie and say they attempted delivery when they didn’t?

It's not just Hermes. You'd expect better from Royal Mail? I'm in a dispute with them because they "delivered " a parcel on 1st July. I've already told them that I live alone, I wasn't in, I have witnesses to that fact, and the evidence that it was delivered us them saying it was delivered. After weeks of to-ing and fro-ing, with additional evidence from me of systematic poor service (including leaving another pave the same well in the refuse bin that was on the street, not even on the property - and a place they say they never use, but which I have proof of) their "result" of the investigation is that I should ask other people who live here if they took it in! That'd be the other people I already told them don't live here! DPD have it right - their people have to take a photo of the parcel they deliver in the open doorway as evidence it was delivered. Bloody appalling customer service and I'm £50 out of pocket. But not giving up. Next stage complaint.

They now reckon they've delivered it but they haven't.

I happened to be looking out of the window when Hermes "delivered" a parcel to me on Friday. I watched him dump my parcel on some nearby steps, then hastily shove a "You were not in" card through the front door and start jogging back to his van.

I opened the door and shouted to him, "I was standing there, why didn't you knock. He just laughed and shouted back "It's on the stairs!"

Then on the Hermes track your parcel app it says "We have successfully delivered your parcel to your garage" (I don't have a garage!) and shows a photo of the parcel lying half way down the steps he left it on.

I tried to find an email address or phone number to complain, but Hermes have very carefully made sure that you have no avenue to complain for something like this. The older phone numbers don't work, and the email that it says you can email them at is invalid. The phone number and "contact us" on-line options are completely automated and make sure that you can't lodge a complaint. It's absolutely terrible.

Hermes have done that to me as well, in an identical situation OP, I took a day off work to wait in for it and then a message to say and attempted delivery, but no note through the door, if they attempt a delivery they should leave a note otherwise they can say that and just not turn up.

makingmyway10 · 27/07/2020 07:24

Hermes once told us that they had put our delivery through the letterbox! Ummmm two king size pillows? Really? They insisted they had, eventually the seller sent replacements which Hermes helpfully left on the driveway without knocking?! Interestingly the local delivery driver was investigated for theft of parcels several months later!

My heart always sinks when I know it's Hermes. They are so shit.

Only a few weeks ago I had a message saying they attempted a collection but I wasn't in. Not only was I in, the package they needed to collect was sat outside the front door to ensure no contact at my end. They are terribly shady.

hi

Branleuse · 06/09/2021 14:22

Theres actually a scam going round. I got an email saying theyd tried to deliver something while I was in, so I texted the local hermes delivery guy as i had his number and the email was part of a well known scam where they try and get you to redirect it or call them through their link provided.....

Are you sure this is legit?

PinkFootstool · 06/09/2021 14:23

@Branleuse well since it's been over a year, it's probably not a problem any more....

Ive had this on several occasions and have cctv. I usually address my complaint direct to the CEO executive team with a date/time stamped copy of my cctv showing that the attempted delivery did not take place at the time the driver claimed. It usually hapens most at Christmas when companies take on a lot of "nicky no name" drivers to supplement their regulars.

snowspider · 06/09/2021 14:44

Yes, it's the way the deliveries are set up to penalise badly paid drivers if they don't deliver. The driver is given an impossible schedule so has to catch up by recording deliveries as missed due to recipient being out. They sometimes will come back and deliver later in the evening after they have officially clocked off. This means they might keep the job without penalty but also means they get an even worse pay rate. Shocking system bad practice but it is driven by customers looking for cost savings such as free delivery and unwillingness generally to pay the real cost of things. I also wish it was more transparent which companies were going to deliver. There should be a "fair trade fair wage " mark for ethical practice.

Drivers and Hermes as a company behalf this was because there is no accountability so the are free to treat customers based on their mood.
No accountability from any authority towards the company. And no accountability to the Drivers from the company.
Hermes driver just took a picture for my door and run a way. And I am shouting at him ,he just ignored me and took over his car.
I believe if there is any responsible official authority you would no see everyone using this platform to put our frustration.

Helenluvsrob · 11/12/2021 12:20

I have absolutely no hope of Hermes delivering anything these days.

Use work address. Open m-f 7-7.

1st delivery attempted on a blooming Sunday then teaching changed to “ parcel damaged in transit - delayed “

Sender now re sending - so far they said they’d deliver 7-9pm Fri (grr) then said “ next working day - without having attempted on Fri - and today “ you weren’t in “.

If you put work address that fails and home address well there no one in m-f working hours 😡

Willdoitlater · 11/12/2021 12:23

It's a Christmas tradition with Hermes

billysboy · 11/12/2021 12:46

We used to have a lovely delivery courier from Hermes, but this all went to pot when she left. The last time Evri delivered to a front door I did not recognize. It turned out to be a neighbouring farm, when I went asking around. They left two parcels for two different addresses, so it was deliberate. The next time they were supposed to pick up a parcel. They said I wasn't in 3 times, although I was right there. I ended up taking it to a parcelshop. They obviously never came anywhere near our house. I had put up a big sign for them, telling them where to leave it. But it seems from the stories above that even a monitoring door bell does not work. I will avoid using companies that use Evri (Hermes) in future.
