Virgin Media Broadband

Our broadband is pretty slow so looking to upgrade but it seems we don't have fibre in the area so the speeds are about as good as it gets. Virgin Media on the other hand are claiming their speeds are 5x what we're getting with a BT line, but their reviews are pretty dire.

Does anyone have Virgin Media broadband and is it okay? I don't want to tie us into an 18 month contract with a slow line if there's a quicker one available.

We have it and so far no issues at all

Have used virgin for years in different properties & never had many problems & few times needed to call customer service seemed ok. My BB only drops out very occasionally now, but I have read online that if happening regularly it can be the virgin router & fine when using a different one.

It annoys me that they put price up few quid mid contract sometimes (not sure if only virgin do this) but ringing up & moaning gets it changed back. Also the price shoots up at the end of your contract so then have to go through to cancellations & tell them you want to leave to get decent price for next contract.

I noticed they all seem to be moving towards longer contracts, until this year virgin was 12m now 18m some are 2yrs. I got a decent price so happy to put cancellation dance off longer.

We've had Virgin for years and have just got a new super router instead of just using the Virgin hub.
The original Virgin hub was okay when the DCs were young but as we've added more and more devices to our wifi, the hub on its own was not good enough and the boosters didn't work that well. Since putting in the new router, we've been able to run two laptops WFH with both running Teams/Skype/Zoom video calls as well as two Xboxes streaming Fortnite and no connection issues at all now.

We moved from BT at work to Virgin because of the speed. It may not be the case everywhere but BT lines were not up to the same speed by a long way.
We've had very few problems with them, and when they have been down they're usually pretty good about keeping you updated and repairing asap.

It seems to vary place to place. May be worth asking on your local Facebook groups?
We’ve had it here for 8 years and the speed is brilliant. It’s only gone down once for about an hour and once for half a day in that time.
