Can anyone recommend cheap parking in central London - preferably near Trafalgar Square - for Sunday? Thank you.

I work in Mayfair and have driven up on Sundays before and found on street parking bays off Piccadilly near Green Park that were free on Sundays.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 24/07/2020 22:44

Single yellows and pay and display bays are free (but double check the pay and displays, as ive heard some were going to start charging for sundays). Get there as early as you can, as it can be very busy!

St James Square and Charles II street are close by and were a favourite of mine, but are often full after about 10-11am.

Also quite a bit around covent garden.

Most are free on Sunday’s but apps like justpark are brilliant

Bringonspring · 24/07/2020 22:46

Lots of spaces near Regent’s Park

Embracelife · 24/07/2020 22:47

You still need to pay congestion charge.

2155User · 24/07/2020 23:00

@Embracelife

And ULEZ

tenlittlecygnets · 24/07/2020 23:02

I know about congestion charge, but what's ULEZ?

Thanks for parking tips. Will download that app.

If you go on to the congestion charge website, you can put your number plate in and it will tell you if you need to pay ulez or not.

Ohsuchaperfectday · 24/07/2020 23:23

Were does the congestion charge start and stop?

hadenoughbleach · 24/07/2020 23:50

If you have (or can borrow) an electric or hybrid car, and register beforehand, you are exempt from both congestion charge and ULEZ.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 25/07/2020 00:04

My four year old diesel car and my wifes 8 year old petrol car are both ulez exempt. I didnt realise the CC was on a sunday as well tho. Shock

Davros · 25/07/2020 00:12

Hasn't the congestion charge gone up to £15 seven days a week? Stay out if the zone if you can. Regent's Park is a good idea

tenlittlecygnets · 25/07/2020 08:41

Just checked - it is £15. Hmm. Oh well. It's one day...

@Ohsuchaperfectday - see tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/congestion-charge/congestion-charge-zone

If you can stand to walk for half an hour (and can come into London from the west) I’d be inclined to park on residential streets in Pimlico with a Mon - Fri permit restriction... you’d avoid parking charges and the congestion charge. Example would be roads like Tachbrook St. Not for everyone but I really resent paying parking and congestion charge!

Ohsuchaperfectday · 25/07/2020 10:23

Thanks op

We live near train but can't afford the extortionate prices to travel in. I hope things don't change further re costs because us and people like us won't be able to access the museums of our capital city....

How do we find out if our car is low emission? Lez

mencken · 25/07/2020 10:56

yep, some train fares have stealthily tripled. so much for concerns about climate change, eh?

AuditAngel · 25/07/2020 12:29

Ohsuch the tfl website will link you to find out if you4 car is ULEZ, but just to say not all hybrids are congestion charge free, I have a Prius+ and I have to pay congestion charge,

tenlittlecygnets · 25/07/2020 14:11

I have to pay £12 for my 10yo diesel - £27 before petrol and parking!! Oh well.

Park outside central London and get a bus to Trafalgar Square. Remember your face covering for the journey.

tenlittlecygnets · 26/07/2020 19:28

Home now! An update: we parked for free on Pall Mall (up to 4 hours, free on Sundays) (collect £200 when you pass Go) then on St James's Place, just round the corner (also free). Bargain!!

Davros · 26/07/2020 22:07

What about congestion charge? You did well, he who dares .....

tenlittlecygnets · 26/07/2020 22:51

I still have to pay that!!
