Hi all, I came across these government-funded courses (www.freecoursesmums.co.uk) on Facebook and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with courses like this? Sounds too good to be true...

I haven't done any through them but i have done Business Admin and IT skills through Vision2Learn which were both done on line and were free of charge. They do other courses too but not all the ones on your link so it depends what course you're interested in.

Seems like it might be similar then. What did you think of the course? Would you recommend doing one?

The 2 courses I did recommended 10 hours study a week for 16 weeks which I found easily achievable. You had a personal tutor you could contact by email through the Vision 2Learn site with any questions regarding coursework or the main course provider with other queries either by email or phone. I found the Business Admin a bit basic and boring to be honest but then I'm quite long in the tooth and have previously done office work but not for many years (which is why I did the course). The IT course was based around Microsoft Office although at the time I did it the course was written for an earlier version than the one I was using so there were a couple of anomalies. It may well have been updated now.

Forgot to say the courses are free as long as you complete them. I think you have to pay an admin fee if you fail to complete the course. This seems fairly standard as one of my local FE colleges does similar courses through distance learning and works on the same system so I'm guessing they can only claim their funding if you complete the course.
