Do you ever have your whole house clean and tidy at one time?

I’ve got a small house, only one dc at home and no work until September so I shouldn’t have any excuse but I can never get my whole house clean and tidy.

Today I have done a general tidy up, made the beds, cleaned around the kitchen, put the food shopping away, done one load of washing, put the dishwasher on and defrosted the freezer. That’s quite a lot for one day around the other things I’ve had to do but I haven’t hoovered or dusted or cleaned the kitchen or bathroom floor so it doesn’t look or feel clean as a whole. I haven’t been in the dc’s room either so that is probably a tip although I can turn a blind eye to that.

I feel like the whole house needs a good scrub and then a hoover and washed floors every day. Do some people do that? Do you enjoy it if you do? I would love to sit down In the evenings to a clean and tidy house but is that achievable?

Of course...it was like it on February 24th 2020.

until the removal men arrived

Wolfiefan · 21/07/2020 17:07

Of course I do.
Just checking. Closing my eyes and pretending really hard is the same yes?

I have a small house and do proper clean in the morning (dust, Hoover, mop kitchen and bathroom floor, wipe down surfaces and clean sinks) which sounds like a lot but only takes about 30/40 minutes, I hoover under the dining table after meals (messy child!) and wipe the table and surfaces down as and when needed.

I find if I don't do it daily the house feels grubby and cluttered but that's probably because it's small.

JorisBonson · 21/07/2020 17:11

Yes. I can't stand stuff left out, dust or clutter. Literally takes me 20 minutes to wipe everything down and hoover (but I am in a tiny 2 up 2 down).

AnnaMariaDreams · 21/07/2020 17:12

Yes but I have one school age child.
We have a lot of Lego but it can be tidied. I have really enjoyed cleaning my house during lockdown.Blush

RandyLionandDirtyDog · 21/07/2020 17:12

Nope, mine would only be clean and tidy if I employed someone else to do it for me.

I try and keep the kitchen and sunroom tidy. The rest.....🤷🏻‍♀️

Josette77 · 21/07/2020 17:13

Yes. I love a clean and organized house. I need it for my mental health.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 21/07/2020 17:14

No, but it appears when looking at social media pics that everyone else does!

onemouseplace · 21/07/2020 17:15

Only between the time my cleaner leaves and the DC get home from school! It’s nice then!

Anoisagusaris · 21/07/2020 17:15

Never.

Large house, both parents work, one works long hours and weekends, multiple children, lots of outdoor activities that bring dirt into the house, plus we are naturally untidy.

Darkestseasonofall · 21/07/2020 17:15

I blitz mine on a Saturday morning whilst DP takes the children out. It stays clean for about an hour upon their return Hmm
Throughout the week its just the kitchen / dining room that get cleaned, plus the bathrooms get a very quick lick with an antibac wipe.
I can't wait for my cleaner to start back, she achieves in 2 hours what takes me 4.

TinySleepThief · 21/07/2020 17:15

I couldn't even answer yes if I included the day we moved in as the previous owners left it in a terrible state. Its a never ending job, I couldn't garuntee it would be 100% clean even if a super important person like the queen was coming over. I honestly dont know how people find the time.

Borridge · 21/07/2020 17:18

For 5 minutes after the cleaner has left... and she hasn’t been in 6 months.

TheGriffle · 21/07/2020 17:19

This past week it has as we’ve put it up for sale so everything has been de cluttered, tidied and scrubbed first for the valuation, then again for the photos a few days later then again a few days later for the first viewing!

It’s never been so clean and tidy in the 11 years we’ve lived here!

houstonspca · 21/07/2020 17:23

Yes, sometimes. And it gives the biggest feeling of inner peace! Recommend Marie Kondo and then The Organised Mum Method.

AnneOfQueenSables · 21/07/2020 17:23

Yy but I feel it's slipped during lockdown because we're all at home so there's more time to create mess. I feel it currently needs scrubbed from top to bottom but, in reality, if I had to make it presentable for visitors, it would probably take less than an hour.

DinosApple · 21/07/2020 17:25

No. Never.

Usually one room or another is tidy.
Eg DD1's room is tidy, but the kitchen, bathroom and living room need a 60 minute blitz each. During the blitz all DD1 and 2's clean clothes will go upstairs. Thereby messing those rooms up.

Whilst I tidy my children seem to follow behind and undo all my hard work. I've lost my mojo.

Stringsattached · 21/07/2020 17:27

Those of you who achieve it, are you constantly tidying and cleaning up all day or do you just blitz it once a day? Do you do it in the morning or the evening? I feel like I do a bit here and a bit there and it never feels clean.

Yes because it's only DH, me and the dog!

When the dc were at home very rarely.

Floralnomad · 21/07/2020 17:31

Absolutely and 95% of the time and we always have even when our children were small mainly because we are a naturally tidy family who put stuff away and dh does a fair bit of actual cleaning .

IdblowJonSnow · 21/07/2020 17:32

Not often! And not over the summer hols. Standards lowered til September.

AnotherBiteMe · 21/07/2020 17:32

I used to do a 4 hour blitz every Saturday morning while ex p took DC out. It did feel wonderful sitting down and knowing it was all done and that it stayed pretty clean for the whole week (aside from the kitchen work tops and toilet).

I don't do it anymore because I can't be arsed and it doesn't really matter.

AramintaPepperminta · 21/07/2020 17:33

Yes, I need it all clean and tidy so I can properly relax. It takes me some time though as we have a 4 bed but worth it

Smallsteps88 · 21/07/2020 17:34

It’s been about 13 years since it happened. Grin god, I remember that feeling of pure satisfaction flopping down on the sofa after cleaning the whole house top to bottom. It didn’t take long either as it was just me and toddler DS living there. No pets either. I still aim for that but it feels like a far off fantasy.

pigcon1 · 21/07/2020 17:36

Yes - flylady works for this.
