Can't remember the title of this book

As a child I read a book that I think had belonged to my Mum, so probably published in the 1960s (although could be earlier or a little later). It was about twin girls who came to be living/staying in a house near a tree that had some magic about it. There was a lion at one point and I'm pretty sure they had a Birthday during the story. Any ideas? I know it isn't much to go on.

The Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton? Different lands arrived at the top of the tree, including The Land Of Birthdays. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Faraway_Tree There are 2 girls and a boy in the family, although other children come to visit in the second and third books.

No, I have actually recently read those to my son. It is definitely twin girls, and I don't think there were any other children.

the Wind on the Moon? sisters Dinah and Dorinda. it was a very weird book, and there was a panther in it. there was a witch who lived in the woods that they would go to for spells.

it probably isn’t it. nobody else has ever read it!

No, not the wind on the moon.
I might be completely off with the date as my mum has no recollection of it and remembered a different twin book that was hers. But I'm confident in the vague plot memories. They spent a lot of time sat under this tree, there may have been an aunt
