I am over 30 and I am still scared to visit hairdressers. I just can't handle the sound of hair clipper. I usually asked the hairdresser to use scissors only, but at some point they need a clipper for a tidy finish around ear and neck. That's the time that I feel really embarrassed since my body can't help shivering when I hear the clipper sound going near me...
Just wondering if there are other ASD adults having similar experience and how you handle it. I have been thinking of bringing earplugs with me but haven't tried that out yet.
I know there are ASD friendly hairdressers for kids but I couldn't find much discussion about adults having similar experience. My hairdressers have been great and accommodating but I just wonder if there are people who have or know somebody experienced something similar?
I haven't been formally diagnosed if I am on the spectrum or not. I am doing okay in my everyday life - I got a job, got a postgraduate degree, no kid, have a partner, have a few friends. But I constantly feel anxious and struggled with small talk and finding the right time to speak during a phone call and sometimes feel overwhelmed by the lighting insider shopping malls and shops.
Any suggestions are welcome
