6 holidays booked over the next 12 months

An ex colleague on FB has recently set up her own FM/NM travel business and most of her posts are now about the latest holiday she has booked, and the six different destinations she and her family are going to over the coming months, mostly long haul. In her posts she claims she isn't bragging as that's not her style, but then goes on to list all the places she's going Hmm

Feeling quite envious that she can have all these holidays when many people, including me, have no prospect in sight of any holiday Sad

Not sure why I'm posting really, just needed to get it out. Perhaps I should set up an NM business too.

Is this an MLM?

@tectonicplates

Is this an MLM?
Yes I think it is. They seem to be very popular at the moment.

Apparently MLM is wonderful.

Well then it's all a lie and she'll end up in debt. Really nothing to be envious of.

HelpMeh · 18/07/2020 12:30

What is FM/NM?

Toilenstripes · 18/07/2020 12:30

She’ll be out of pocket and looking foolish before long if it’s an MLM.

I don't know how those in MLM apparently make huge, life changing amounts of money and are so smug about it, especially if it is all a lie.

What is FM/NM?
Network Marketing

They don't make money. 99% of them lose money. They need you to believe they've made a lot of money so that they can recruit you into the scheme and recoup some of their losses.

It's one of those "fake it until you make it" things, except that they never actually make it.

Six holidays, mostly long haul, in a year sounds exhausting. I wouldn’t be envious if I were you. Taking into consideration school holidays and annual leave, some must only be for a few days. Someone I know who is involved in an MLM went on about her planned trip to Las Vegas. She was there for two nights. All that way for two nights?? No thanks.

Thisyearcandoone · 18/07/2020 12:38

What's an MLM?

mornington2020 · 18/07/2020 12:40

The six planned holidays. Does not necessarily mean they will all happen given how Covid 19 is getting worse in some places.

Don't be envious.

Lemonmaid · 18/07/2020 12:40

@Thisyearcandoone

What's an MLM?
Multi Level Marketing. I don't understand it or how it works but tempted to join.

@Thisyearcandoone

What's an MLM?
Multi Level Marketing, which is basically a thinly-disguised pyramid scheme. 99% of people end up losing money.

This is long but SUCH a good (and funny) depiction of what working in an MLM scheme is really like.

tectonicplates · 18/07/2020 12:47

Multi Level Marketing. I don't understand it or how it works but tempted to join.

DO NOT JOIN!!!

Do a search on these boards for various other MLM companies such as Forever Living, Younique and Juice Plus. Read lots of them. It's the same story over and over again. Around 99% of people end up losing money and some people end up in significant debt. The behaviour has been compared to cults. You will annoy all your friends and family and be under constant pressure to recruit people.

They are pyramid schemes.

Banana0pancakes · 18/07/2020 12:51

Don't do it @Lemonmaid. It's hilarious how bad these schemes are and what they turn people into.

My dh has a school friend who does this, posts constantly on social media about how amazing and life changing it is. How she loves going on shopping sprees every week blah blah blah.

But every now and then facade slips and there'll be a normal post like 'does anyone know a cheap mechanic?'.

It's definitely smoke and mirrors. For all you know, she knows that covid makes these holidays very unlikely to happen, so no one would know if they were actually booked or if she was just trying to trap new minions into the scheme by flashing off wealth that doesn't exist, and no repercussions of not going on the holidays because covid.

Don't join a MLM scheme - as PP have said it's fake it until you make, except you don't ever make it. If you're still unsure google why MLMs are awful and watch a few videos.

HearingMyOwnVoice · 18/07/2020 12:57

Please, please don't join her. It will ruin you.

I won't, but it looks so tempting. I think I'll block her instead Smile

HelpMeh · 18/07/2020 13:22

Oh, don't join. Unless you were a founding father then MLMs are all bullshit.

I can't imagine any travel business is doing a roaring trade at the moment.
