Smudge of Wallpaper Paste on New Wallpaper

Sorry I have posted this in DIY as well but I'm putting in here for more traffic. I will ask for the other thread to be removed now.
I've just noticed a smudge of paste on the front of the wallpaper that was put up about four weeks ago.

It's only noticeable when the light is in the right place. It's a shiny streak.

The wall paper is matte and almost black so the shine is quite obvious.

Is there anything I can do about it? I'm a bit reluctant to go at the paper with any kind of water or detergent obviously.

Is it possible to get a decorator to just cover that one bit or will it be really obvious that the one little patch has been covered?

Thank you for your time.

Hopeful bump

I would dab it with a clean, damp cloth. But don't t rub it. Once it has dried I would do it again. You may need to do it a few times.
...and it may not work! A lot depends on the finish/textute of the wall paper. I think trying to patch it may make the 'repair' even more evident that the mark is now.

On the label that was with the wallpaper roll, if you can find it, it will say whether the wallpaper is wipeable, scrubbable etc. That will let you know how delicate you have to be.

Don't patch it though as on dark paper that will show more unless you're a really good paperer. Difficult to know without seeing it but as other poster said, gently dab with warm damp cloth to try and reactivate the paste.

Thanks both. I'll try with a damp cloth.

On the website, it says the paper's washable. Does that mean I can dab with a damp cloth and that should bring it out? So worried.

Just wanted to thank you for the advice - most of the paste has come off really well. There's still a tiny bit but its not shiny any more. Just patted it with a slightly damp cloth.

THANK YOU.

That's good, washable should be fine. Wallpaper if it's vinyl is pretty robust.

Glad it has worked Op.

@Somanysocks Grin I've got Farrow and Ball wallpaper going up in another room this week which is not as easily washable. I'm so nervous about accidental paste!!

I've put up quite a lot of F & B wallpaper and it's usually pretty robust. Always extra careful though as it's so expensive.

I always keep a bucket of clean water and sponge handy when papering and wipe over the top, bottom and seams just in case.

Oh thank you @Somanysocks Grin

I've ordered F&B paste then I'll just leave the decorator to it and hope for the best!
