What would you put in a room to make it a really relaxing/zen space?

We’ve recently put an extension on our home, only a small room-7ft by 11. It’s going to be a room for DH and I to use as we’ve got a house full of teenagers.

Due to lockdown we could only get white paint. I was planning on redoing it but i really like it. It’s quite calming-oak furniture and lots of cushions and plants.

What else could I put in there to make it really relaxing? Bit of a spa vibe?

The spa near me is all shades of choc brown.

Shutters are always good, heated throws are amazing. You need one of those neom scented candles that spas use.

Some kind of water feature thing?

TwilightPeace · 12/07/2020 16:46

Oh and one of those steam diffuser things you put aromatherapy oils in.

Fairy lights (white ones)

I have a couple of strings in my bedroom and the love them.

Nice plush rug.

A plug-in ultrasonic oil diffuser so you can use essential oils and blend them according to your mood.

Keep it white and uncluttered. Nice house plants in nice pots.

Agree with the oil diffuser, or perhaps incense sticks (I use these a lot). Fairy lights could be relaxing, my DD has some that are a very pale pastel pink rose shaped, and they give off a low light that isn't in-your-face bright.

A crystal salt lamp

A fish tank? Watching fish swim is very relaxing. Although you would need to do the necessary care and maintenance of their environment.

What about a lava lamp?

Hanging egg chair. So relaxing rocking in one. Loads of cushions too.

dementedma · 12/07/2020 17:39

Fairy lights or salt crystal lamp. Beanbags. Fishtank or water bubble column if you dont want care of fish. Lots of tealights/candles in holders

Just be careful with these if you have pets that are in the room. Some of the oils are quite toxic to animals.

I just use water in mine and it is still lovely.

Thanks everyone, great ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of.

A hammock would be lovely too.

You could always put a couple of anchor points in so that it's not up all the time but so you can just hook it on when needed. We use caribiner clips for our garden hammock
