Saw this and did a double take. I can't put my finger on it but she looks so 'off' in this advert. Is it the outfit? Is it that she's too young to be doing retirement ads. I don't know. She looks like she's in the wrong era.

Aw I think she looks lovely! It's a super naff advert for a super naff retirement community, but Jane McD doesn't take herself too seriously and is a poster girl for camp, I think she did her job very well in this instance!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/07/2020 14:19

Video won’t play for me.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 12/07/2020 14:29

I think it's ok and she's not too young because she said it's from age 45, 45!! Now I feel old being eligible for a retirement property Grin
As an aside I think JM looks fabulous, she's 57 but doesn't look it.

Fairenuff · 12/07/2020 15:14

Maybe that's it. She is only 57. Maybe I feel like the celebrity advertising this should be 67+

She is way too young but maybe that is just the way media portray women. I mean, Tom Cruise is the same age and he's still playing an action man in movies.

Fuck me-I’m 45 in September, I’ll qualify for a retirement home! Surely that’s a mistake?

Northernsoullover · 12/07/2020 15:18

I love Jane MacDonald. She's just lovely and so down to earth.

IrmaFayLear · 12/07/2020 15:22

I saw that ad this morning... 45 !!!!!!!!!

WorraLiberty · 12/07/2020 15:26

Isn't the whole point of it that it's exclusively for over 45s?

Fairenuff · 12/07/2020 15:30

@WorraLiberty

Isn't the whole point of it that it's exclusively for over 45s?
But realistically, it's going to be over 60s buying these caravans bungalows.

Perhaps that's why they're trying harder to get younger people interested, hence using a younger woman to promote them?

burnoutbabe · 12/07/2020 15:35

at 45, one may want to move somewhere with no kids, i have looked at lovely flats near the centres of town and then seen i can't have one as retirement only,

And hurrah, now I do qualify!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 12/07/2020 15:38

Bloody love Kween Jane! Watched her Cruising show last night. I mean, even the title is high camp! She’s just brilliant and I want to be her.

Kazzyhoward · 12/07/2020 15:38

She is way too young but maybe that is just the way media portray women.

I don't think she was forced to do it. Presumably she was offered the job and chose to take it!

Yes but maybe her options are more limited as she gets older. Unlike men.

I think Jane McDonald really appeals to the target demographic.

IrmaFayLear · 12/07/2020 15:42

Just had a look at the website. There’s a development near me, do you think Jane might show me round?!

But... “prices from £350k” - for a mobile home Shock

bettsbattenburg · 12/07/2020 15:47

I don't think it's surprising that she's advertising retirement related products as she'll be well known to their target customers because of her long involvement with the cruising industry. I'm not a great fan to be honest but having read her biography she's got a business head and will have an eye for what is a good opportunity or not.

Now I've watched the ad (I hadn't before writing the above) they are very much emphasising the features of cruise ships that will be popular and it's filmed in a way to make you able to imagine it's like being on a cruise ship but at home.

AnyFucker · 12/07/2020 15:52

D-lister does naff advert. Hold the front pages !

I do have a soft spot for Jane. I love her cruise/travel programmes, like curling up with a cosy hot chocolate. She knows her appeal and doesn't try to deviate...she has managed a long and reasonably successful career out of it. Fair play to her.

The blue outfit is terrible though.

Fairenuff · 12/07/2020 16:00

Yes, I think it might be the outfit that misses the mark. And maybe the hairstyle too. She looks like a US real estate agent. Maybe that's what they were going for.

"As an aside I think JM looks fabulous, she's 57 but doesn't look it."

I was just thinking how old she looks for her age on it!

I think it's the old fashioned hair & clothes.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 12/07/2020 16:37

How much?? ShockShockShock

Tappering · 12/07/2020 16:46

Jane's so naff that she's cool.

I always remember her festive album Cruise into Christmas Grin

I've just discovered these, they're great aren't they?Although my DD gives me a Hmm look at the end bits where she sings Grin

In her book she says that people spend the whole programme waiting for the bit at the end to see what she's going to sing. I really, really don't !
Mistyshore · 12/07/2020 17:02

We love Jane here. It’s one of the few programmes DP and I can watch together. Usually he’s watching a car being taken apart and I’m watching reality or documentaries
