What is going on with my hair! Random corse strands

I keep finding a few of these lone strands of hair.

I rarely blow dry or put heat tools, my hair is dyed though.

I always air dry my hair

In the ocation I get a blow dry my hair is silky and smooth

Recently I keep finding these random bits of hair. They feel really rough and corse, my hair texture naturally is slightly wavy.

The couple I've found I've just thought they must be really damaged so I cut the strand.

Because my hair has been feeling really dry and not behaving right I thought I'd test a strand out on my straightners
As I want to see how damaged the strand of hair was

The strand of hair didn't sizzle or die it went straight and felt smooth and was no longer rough.

Are these strands of hair just really really dry and frizzy ?

They may be grey hairs.

I get them randomly...no idea what causes them so would be interested if anyone knows!

Chocolate2020 · 11/07/2020 18:45

I don't think they are as my roots have come through a little and its still the natural colour, the grey hair I do have is just like my smooth natural texture hair

do you have any moles?
I have one that produces very dark wiry hair.

Oh, I have been noticing a few coarse strands in the last year or so....they eventually turned grey.....Confused The start of the greys. I'm 34. Maybe that could be it? Blush

thirdfiddle · 11/07/2020 18:54

I've always had a few thicker wirier strands in my mostly very fine hair. Are you sure it's not just you're finding them because you started looking for them?

Chocolate2020 · 11/07/2020 19:18

Not that I know of 🙁

Once in a French mock exam a found a jet black wirey hair. I pulled it out my hair to show my family. I'm naturally a medium blonde

I’ve spent many a happy hour raking through my hair in search of these. Unrelated to grey hair in my experience.

NoParticularPattern · 11/07/2020 19:43

I get these and sort of enjoy finding them. Don’t get them often but when I do it’s a delight! No idea why they happen and I don’t have any grey so it’s not that, but I do enjoy them nonetheless

Blingismything · 11/07/2020 19:45

I love finding these in my baby fine hair and call them pubes.

MellowMelly · 12/07/2020 10:30

Oooo I have at least several of these on my head. I’ve got long hair and it’s actually quite easy to locate them as they seem to fall in a certain place when I pull my hair round to the side and then I can’t help but keep feeling them!

It was my hairdresser that first located them and she said it can be related to hormones, thyroid issues or a hair follicle that is slightly abnormal causing the hair to grow out flat and kinky instead of smooth and round. Some of mine are really black and coarse and some of them are my normal hair colour and fine.

Mawbags · 12/07/2020 10:32

Small Part of my hair is like that, I noticed it after getting my hair woven at a festival... the strands were never the same after the that.
