When will you feel comfortable staying in a UK Hotel?

Vaguely considering spending some tesco club card vouchers in the future on a hotel stay but I don't think I'm ready yet to relax and enjoy it. What do you think?

Well, what I think is different to what you think so it's a bit of a moot question. Will you change your mind if I'm doing something differently to you?

However to answer your question - I've book Port Lynpne next month and a restaurant for tomorrow evening so I'm all about carefully getting back out there

Ginkypig · 10/07/2020 20:56

I think everyone feels differently about it so you will have to decide for yourself but Iv decided that I won't be going anywhere until at the earliest start of next year by then we will hopefully have a much clearer idea of what things are going to look like long term and until then for a few reasons some of which are.

Places are going to be packed because lots of people can't or won't go abroad so they will do uk breaks.

The rules in place means you can't do much if it requires anything more than going for a walk. Museums, shops art galleries, cafe pubs and restaurants all have restrictions that change the easy dynamics of them.

As Leicester has shown at any point any part of the country could potentially if data supports it be put into lockdown or have stricter restrictions put on it which would royally screw up my holiday and a refund is unlikely because insurance will unlikely cover it.

Basically if I can't do it the way I want to and there's a risk I'll lose money then I can't be ared and I'd rather wait. My way or no way Blush

Ginkypig · 10/07/2020 20:59

That's not to say I won't go out to restaurants etc I just won't go away anywhere.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/07/2020 21:02

I've booked a night away for my birthday in August.

Restlessinthenorth · 10/07/2020 21:03

We will be staying in a hotel next weekend, in a large UK City. I have 0 concerns about it, and actually, can't bloody wait!

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/07/2020 21:03

I'd be on with it now, even as a shielder, BUT it would be check in, then don't gi near anyine ekse, just either stay in the room, or go straight out.
I wouldn't eat in the restaurant or go to the bar or anything.

BabcockPeggy · 10/07/2020 21:06

Stayed in one last night - a posh hotel that I can’t normally afford. It was £73 for dinner, bed and breakfast and was great.

Pianostrings · 10/07/2020 21:08

I'm in one right now in Cornwall. It feels safe. There was a perspex screen and hand sanitiser in reception. My room had been cleaned before i arrived but won't be during my stay to minimise people coming in and out. There is the choice to eat inside or out. I am washing my hands lots and not getting too close to people but it feels brilliant. There is sun forecast and a quiet beach nearby. The people i've talked to have been friendly and everyone on the beach and strolling around the village was relaxed.

If you aren't vulnerable physically, please get on and book something and have fun. The risk is so minimal. Life is for living.

I’ve felt comfortable for weeks because I haven’t bought into the media-driven hysteria.

Mum2jenny · 10/07/2020 21:13

Have already done it and it was ok, no issues at all. However the breakfast was a grab and go bag where you picked what you wanted and put it in a bag.

BananaPop2020 · 10/07/2020 21:13

Whenever they return to the pre Covid status. I want to be able to enjoy my stay rather than put up with the “regime” many of them have now adopted.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/07/2020 21:13

DH had to stay occasionally in hotels over lockdown for work. He said he felt perfectly safe.

We've got a camping holiday booked.

lljkk · 10/07/2020 21:15

I'm not afraid of the virus but I am scared of losing all my money if somewhere goes into Lockdown at short notice. So I would only book very last minute.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/07/2020 21:16

I feel fine about it now. We’ve got a nice hotel plus Michelin starred restaurant booked for a couple of weeks time. Figured we’d spend all the money we would have spent eating out over the past 4 months in one fell swoop!
What part of staying in a hotel do you feel is unsafe?

AnotherEmma · 10/07/2020 21:17

In 3 weeks time, I'm going to be very comfortable indeed (treated ourselves to a posh one) and I can't wait Smile

WanderingMilly · 10/07/2020 21:20

Would happily stay in a hotel right now. I'm just waiting for my favourite country house hotel to open, I think they are aiming at 1st August. And now we can have some beauty treatments, parts of the spa will be open by then too - can't wait!

Radioheadrestart · 10/07/2020 21:21

Dh stayed in one last night, eating out options were sparse - it was fine, he ate - fun? not really!

dreamingbohemian · 10/07/2020 21:23

I'm staying in a London hotel in 10 days -- there are amazing deals on at the moment, so I'm staying somewhere far swankier than I normally do, really looking forward to it.

For anyone worried about having to cancel due to a new lockdown -- loads of places are doing free cancellation until the day before, so it's fairly risk-free. Have a look on booking.com and you can search for everyone who does free cancellation.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 10/07/2020 21:25

I’ve never not felt comfortable

bengalcat · 10/07/2020 21:26

I stay in one when oncall and have carried on throughout lockdown . Have no concerns .

ChasingRainbows19 · 10/07/2020 21:31

In 11 days time. We have a few days in the lakes booked and can’t wait. Numbers are the lowest they will be as things re open so in my eyes best time to go.

I’ve followed every rule and worked for the NHS on a ward and am ready for a break. I’ve been nowhere but Work, walks, supermarket and a friends garden! That won’t change until we go away.
