what happens when you gaslight a gaslighter

I was just wondering... it feels like a bad idea that could backfire completely. Manly as I had a mad idea to do just that and then stopped myself.

any thoughts?

I think your best option is to get away from the gaslighter as soon as you can.

completetheform · 10/07/2020 17:00

you are so right.

don't sink to their level it will make my thoughts worse, even when someone sends you a msg with 9 months of bs, i still end up doubting what i'm seeing, and the making sure you don't get to talk to the source until its too late

and they cling to it no matter what, so if i do walk away I've got to leave everything behind.

Worse is when you confide in someone else and they just don't believe you even though they can see the it too or stop talking to you. It really make makes me feel like I have nothing at all. Stupidly I felt like I needed someone on my side

I feel like I cant trust anyone atm, and it just worms around inside my head. And he tells everyone just how hard he's working and doing stuff, when all he's doing is playing clash of clowns

I was gaslighted for years. I felt such a fool. But my revenge was to move on and make something of myself. That pisses him off big time. And I have my self respect.

It'll get better for you. X

I wouldn’t. People like that will leap on any minor infraction or slip up on your part to justify their own behaviour. ‘You kept a secret second family hidden from us’ ‘yeah well- remember when you said you’d paid the car tax and you HADN’T- I’m justified’ (fictional example)

Southwesterlywind · 10/07/2020 17:39

Op you have so many of us on your side who've been there and wish you good things to come and freedom from thinking about him.
The best revenge is indifference.

completetheform · 10/07/2020 18:03

@Southwesterlywind
Its got to me today and yes i am practising indifference, speak when spoken to, be polite but keep my distance

all that and lonleyness too

and all thank you for being here

It is lonely yes, but more the reason to be your own best friend Smilebuying nice food, saying kind things to yourself, calming your inner fear with good songs on you tube.
I like Skylar's 'Glorious' (just her singing without Macklemore)

The only dc that speaks to ex h tells me there is a great deal of moaning about ‘ your mother living the high life whilst I struggle’. I did over 20 years of that shit. I love living on my own, feeling safe, having a life. Keep safe and get out as soon as you’re able. 💐

completetheform · 10/07/2020 19:37

its the self doubt that creeps up that then somehow turns into powerless anger at myself

but after bowl of prawn cocktail with extra prawns i think i believe if I breath deep I can take hold of myself and push through until the next one. And I think by saying it here I can make myself a little bit stronger.

This place helped me see clearly and supported me. I had some wonderful advice. I’m now in my own place, I have friends, I go out, all things I didn’t do. It’s great!

Evelefteden · 10/07/2020 20:18

I did it with my ex and he was soooooooooo fucking confused. He still doesn’t know either.

It was a hollow victory tbh. The best is to leave and stay gone then you no your reality is true

This story was on reddit but has since been deleted. Fortunately a copy is still on this site.
Essentially, you get a Nannie cam and then sit down to watch the film Gaslight before dumping him
