If you changed your surname for reasons other than marriage, how did you choose one?

For various reasons I'm considering changing my surname. I have other names within the family I could use but it also occurred to me I could actually choose anything I like.

If you've also changed your surname, how did you choose it?

Some good things to consider here. I'm currently at the beginning of the alphabet.

I already have a child and don't intend to have anymore. I'll be changing their surname as well to whatever I choose. We have different surnames now but there is no link for my child to the surname they have so I imagine having the same surname as me would give a better sense of belonging.
