Does anyone have recent experience of Persimmon homes?

Due to our mortgage offer disappearing due to lockdown we're now having to consider the Help to Buy scheme. There is a Persimmon development with a house which is in budget and a great location but online reviews are awful. I lived in a Persimmon new build around 12 years ago which was great but the reviews are making me nervous.

There are also developments by Bellway and Keepmoat but they also have poor reviews.

If anyone has recent experience I'd appreciate the feedback. I know lots of people will come and say don't buy a new build, tiny gardens, no character etc, but in the current circumstances it's this or rent forever so we need to consider it.

There are builders whose properties I wouldn’t consider. You’ve mentioned two of them I’m afraid.

I don’t live in one- but there is a persimmon estate being built very close to my house. 196 houses of which 50 are left to build.

I sneakily joined the Facebook group of the site (there is probably one for the one you are looking at)

Anyway- all residents are complaining all day long with issues like power tripping constantly, drains always blocking, floors uneven, outside rendering falling off etc etc
And it seems persimmon are very bad at answering their complaints or putting the jobs right.

To add to this my DH is friends with tradesmen who work on these new build sites and they all say how cheaply and quickly they are put together.
Also don’t forget you have to pay a monthly or annual ‘service charge’ as well as probably a leasehold fee.

Great idea re the Facebook group, the site I’m looking at is pretty well established with more to build so hopefully I will get a good idea of issues from current residents! Thanks

I moved into one in January. My main problem were the very long delays prior to moving in. Once in, I have been happy. I love my house and any snags have been dealt with efficiently by friendly employees. You do have to be pro-active though. I have a good friend who also moved into a Persimmon a couple of years ago and she has also been happy.
